Talk Like Shakespeare Day

This is awesome! Today is Shakespeare’s 450th birthday. And with that, today is Talk Like Shakespeare Day.  Although I am not much of a poet, nor have I been confused with a bard, I will take a shot at talking like Shakespeare. It seems similar, but this is much harder than talk like a pirate day! Here is my take at iambic parameter. I am not claiming that this is good, but at least it’s fun.

Earth from heaven a fair sheep free taketh
Days and nights his words and deeds change maketh
Unrestraineth the dirt his life doth give
Aft’r’s life restor’d anon thou wilt live

ok, right, I didn’t say it was good!

Here is something else interesting. Evidently there’s a large rumor that Shakespeare wrote part of the K JV version and those conspiracy theorists point to Psalms 46. There is some sort of pattern of 46 and Shakespeare’s name there. With number magic you can make this happen.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. (Psalms 46:1-11 KJV)

However, Kyle Butt puts this rumored to bed in this good article here.

So you can read that sonnet for the promise it holds, shake and spear! Enjoy the day and create your own lyrics which bring glory to our creator.

God’s Creation Day

It’s that day created to honor the Earth.  And of course since the Earth is the creation of our Spiritual Father, it is something that we should always remember to be careful with.

1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.
The world and all its people belong to him.
2 For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas
and built it on the ocean depths.   Psalm 24:1-2 (NLT)

Besides that, it’s sort of our only home, and a glorious home it is:

1 The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display his craftsmanship.
2 Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.
3 They speak without a sound or word;
their voice is never heard.
4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.  Psalm 19 (NLT)

Take some time to look at your life today and the ways you honor, respect and care for the creation that has been given to you.

Easter Monday

It’s Easter Monday.  A holiday in many places making allowances for everyone to recover from all the jelly beans and chocolate they consumed yesterday.  OK, not really, but it is Easter Monday. Celebrated as a holiday in many countries through the world, it’s really just the day after Easter.  For most of the US, it’s get back to work day, unless you happen to still be on Spring Break.  Either way, I like to think it’s a another day tacked on to the weekend because the joy caused by the whole empty tomb thing was just too much,  even though I know it’s really a relic from older spring festivals.

Nevertheless, what happened on the Passover so many years ago is still as relevant today as it will be in the middle of October, the days furthest from Easter!  Redemption is upon is. Let us live today in a way that highlights that event and shares our joy with others.

8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (NIV)

Happy Easter

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. (Matthew 28:1-6 NIV)

Happy Easter indeed!

What can we say then but be compelled to some sort of action?

This Day

It’s that day.  The day that changed the world.  The day that no one saw coming, but all need to understand.  The day that the Son of God stepped in for everyone and bore the sins of the world.  Your sins, my sins, the sins of the billions of people that have ever lived.    The day the pronounced loudly that the Messiah had come.  The Messiah had come to die, a horrible painful death.  And yet, we can say it was good.  The day that the relationship with the creator was reestablished. It’s that day! It’s a Good Friday.

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.  And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.  The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;  and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.  Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” Matthew 27:50-54
