The Light is Not Overcome

Sometimes it’s good to have a reminder as to why we actually do buffet our bodies daily and put others in front of ourselves.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.  John 1 (New International Version)

Drink Just Water Week

This week World Vision ACT:S is teaming up with water bottle manufacture MiiR to encourage people to just drink water.  They are calling it simply Drink Just Water Week.  You can read more about their efforts to raise awareness of the blessings water is to some, and have scarce it is to others here.

Here is what they are asking people to do today:

Monday July 9th: Drink Just Water
We invite you to join us in taking the challenge to drink just water for an entire week and donate the money you would typically spend on coffee, soda etc. to help fund clean water projects through World Vision or One Day’s Wages.

I recommend you try drinking only water this week as well.  I was actually looking forward to grabbing a huge sweet tea as I made my way back into the office and tackled the mountain of email I will have this morning, but I think I will attempt this challenge.  How about you?

I think it will also help me think about my need for only spiritual water as well.  Do you remember this little exchange?

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?(His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.

11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”   John 4:7-15

As you drink water this week for your physical body, consider the blessing it is, and also spend a moment thinking about the words of this woman.  May we echo her words this week: “Sir, give me this water…”

Happy UFO Day

Today is World UFO Day!

I think it’s quite captivating that their website is sub titled “Celebrate the Truth”

Hm.. Now, I listen to George Noory and Coast to Coast as much as every late night driver, but I am not sure about this UFO thing.

What I can say is this:

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  John 8:31-33 New International Version (NIV)

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

For some reason the Queen song “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” has bounced around my head all morning.  I can’t explain it, nor can I handle it.  I am sure my performances this morning will continue to keep me off the Sunday morning praise team, but it has implemented the thought deep in my head.

And I wondered what about love should I be considering this morning. Then, I just happened on over to John 17, where the Christ says twice

12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

17 This is my command: Love each other.

Do you think he meant for us to do that?

It might be time for us to “get round to it”!

Ready Freddie?
