September is here!

Oh yes, its the first day of September, my favorite month of the year! Football, school, several very important birthdays, talk like a pirate day, the start of fall, and of course a little cooler weather. And September kicks off with Emma Nutt Day ( and you all know my propensity to write about nutts.) She was the one of the first telephone operators. What a fun job.

So what does that have to do with anything? Nothing Nothing at all!!

Well I dunno. Maybe it’s worth a moment to think about all he communication that Emma brokered in her 33 years manning the switchboard. And actually communication both good and bad us something I have been thinking about for several weeks.
But being good at it is actually quite difficult. So consider these words on Emma Nutt day.

3 Set a guard over my mouth, LORD;
keep watch over the door of my lips.
Psalm 141:3

< blockquote>11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. Proverbs 10:11

Oh and Remember to wear your colors tomorrow!!!!!

A Weird Morning of Singing

I woke up this morning to the George Strait’s “Here For A Good Time” on US 101.  I can’t say I really like this song or the entire message of the song, but one part of the chorus as been in my head all morning.  ( that was up until I starting singing the old hymn “Jesus is Coming Soon” at the top of my lungs!)

Moving on.

Those few words in the chorus  “I ain’t here for a long time, I’m here for a good time” has been floating around in my head all day.  I was quickly reminded of these two verses.

14Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14 New International Version (NIV)

So with that knowledge in hand, we need to learn from George – no not ‘the bring on the moonshine’ part, more on the whole I am am going to make this short time mean something part.  Maybe something like this from Ephesians, where we are encouraged to make the most of every opportunity

15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Ephesians 5:15-20 New International Version (NIV)

So sing along!

you can pick from either song.

George:

“.. when I’m gone let it be known I left nothing behind….”

Or the old hymn:

“..rising up in the sky, telling this world goodbye….”

Toasted, Roasted, and Sweet

It’s Toasted Marshmallow’s day.  I am not sure why that is not later in the fall, as it seems that it would be ridiculous to gather around a camp fire in August when it is still in the 90’s even when the sun is setting.

And for some reason with the thought of marshmallows I am reminded of a song and, it seems,  cereal.

Anyway, that song it about the only thing rattling around in my brain now, for me it seems more like Toasted Brain day, as I feel as I have sort of been writing the same thing each and every day.   But not to worry, I have some undeveloped thoughts that will be posting themselves very soon.

In the meantime, enjoy the look back at marshmallow days of yesteryear ( or last year!), and as you move through your marshmallow world, make sure you are the yummy goodness inside and not the burnt toasted crunchy part on the outside!

And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. ESV Luke 6:31

Garfield’s Favorite

Oh yes!  ’tis Monday, again!  Garfield the cat’s favorite day.

Yes, its Monday, a new day, a new work week, a new start.  Today, Monday is my favorite day – and it’s the only one I have. And that’s no Chop Suey!  ( but it is Chop Suey Day!

Have a great one!

24 This is the day the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.Psalm 118:24New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

Limits

My post is quite late this morning due to some morning commitments.  Even now I am balancing posting something meanfuling with a hand full of thorn producing, life killing tasks.

So due to that and because it’s Friday, which means that everyone is thinking about Football or the coming weekend,  here is just a simple thought for today.

I found this quote which I thought was worthy of some consideration

“Our duty as men is to proceed as if limits to our ability did not exist.” – Teilhard de Chardin

It’s an interesting thought, and one that I think is even easier for those that have entrusted themselves to the Christ.  Take a look at here

13I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13  New International Version (NIV)

and here

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 New International Version (NIV)

It seems that we as humans tend to want to place limits on ourselves – based on our experiences or our confidence in ourselves.  But wow, when you consider where you strength comes from, it seems that maybe those limits are self imposed, and we would do good to consider the words of Mr. Teilhard.

What do you think?  Let’s be loosed from our limits!
