I woke up this morning to the George Strait’s “Here For A Good Time” on US 101. I can’t say I really like this song or the entire message of the song, but one part of the chorus as been in my head all morning. ( that was up until I starting singing the old hymn “Jesus is Coming Soon” at the top of my lungs!)
Moving on.
Those few words in the chorus “I ain’t here for a long time, I’m here for a good time” has been floating around in my head all day. I was quickly reminded of these two verses.
14Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14 New International Version (NIV)
So with that knowledge in hand, we need to learn from George – no not ‘the bring on the moonshine’ part, more on the whole I am am going to make this short time mean something part. Maybe something like this from Ephesians, where we are encouraged to make the most of every opportunity
15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:15-20 New International Version (NIV)
So sing along!
you can pick from either song.
George:
“.. when I’m gone let it be known I left nothing behind….”
Or the old hymn:
“..rising up in the sky, telling this world goodbye….”
