Love Another

As we approach the holiday weekend, spend a little time of the reason for our celebration – peace, hope and love.  And don’t forget the example that Christ-followers try to base there lives on.

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4 7-12

Bowl Season!

Yeah, it’s Bowl week, and it’s gotten off to a great start with to game saving touchdowns late in the game.  I have to say that fourth down call by The Herd was a great play.  But here’s something pretty cool that happened off the field.

As you probably know, the players are rewarded quite well at this games.  The bowl gifts range from TV’s to watches, from iPods to rings. Tons o’ swag – well – of course swag that is under the $300 NCAA limit.  Yesterday however, a few Louisiana Tech players gave their packages to children from the Make-A-Wish foundation.  That’s probably even more incredible than the touchdowns and tackles.  Jump over and read about it here.

And be inspired by the heart of those players, and the magic of the Christmas season.

Keep Giving!

38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”  Luke 6:38 New International Version (NIV)

Last Minute

Wow, I can’t believe it’s the day before the night before the night before the night before the night before Christmas.  It is nearly upon us!  And to be quite honest, I still have tons of shopping to do – which is actually unusual for me.  Oh well, I think I will join the rest of the men out buying vacuum cleaners and whatever Christmas sweater or jewelry they can find on Christmas Eve.  Amy is going to love this year!

It’s just been one of those years – where the business of living life has overcome my ability to prepare for important events that lie ahead.  Or maybe I a just have procrastinated.

Anyway, I am sure you are also finding some last minutes things to scramble for, they may not be as large of scale as the scramble that lies ahead of me. And really some of that hustle is part of the fun of celebrating Christmas. I mean who doesn’t love getting in all that last-minute traffic on Christmas Eve?

But let’s not let that happen to our spirits.  Keep that in the forefront and guard that part of your life with extreme prejudice.

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 New International Version (NIV)

To be Filled

I am sort of blank this morning, and as I was thinking about how to fill this empty space, I remembered this.

9 This is my prayer for you: that your love will grow more and more; that you will have knowledge and understanding with your love;10 that you will see the difference between good and bad and will choose the good; that you will be pure and without wrong for the coming of Christ; 11 that you will be filled with the good things produced in your life by Christ to bring glory and praise to God.  Philippians 1:9-11 New Century Version (NCV)

I hope that you will be filled today!

Peace in a storm

Tim Tebow, Tim Tebow, Tim Tebow.

He’s everywhere these days.  And I have to admit I really liked it that as I was sitting in BW3 yesterday watching some games, the pregame conversation consisted of more faith talk then it did touchdown talk! So Tim Tebow makes yet another appearance in the Buffet.

Last Friday, I was shown this video of Tim Tebow mic’d up in the Broncos come from behind win against the Bears from the previous week.  I find this to be amazing.  I actually have loved hearing this stuff from the time I was a little kid. I think the sideline banter is always fascinating.  But this video I find very impressive.  It’s not really the come from behind effort, or anything about the football game.  It’s more in the way Tim Tebow handles himself on the sideline. His temperament, his encouragement, his focus – and the evidence of where his treasure really lies.  He seems so at peace with himself and with what is going on around him.  Hm.. that sounds a lot like the words we read in that book we call the Bible.

To me it’s so impressive to see how even when he was behind, he was still focused on encouragement and giving effort.  I am sure he gets frustrated, I am sure there are moments that he would not want us to hear – he is human.  And I am sure there are others who, in their own jobs, are also great examples of this.  But to see this, in the limelight and the pressure of big time football, is quite inspiring.  I think this is a great example, one that we can take directly into our own fields of employment.

I think it would be worth to take the 10 minutes and watch this.  The example that you can see from him will help point you and others to the Christ.

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 New International Version (NIV)
