Stands Forever

So many oddities today Kentucky lost a basketball game, a crazy light is shining on the surface of Mars and XP died.

This much uncertainty in the force has even delayed my ability to throw out a post today. Luckily we have promises like this to ground us:

11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever,

The plans of His heart from generation to generation.

Psalm 33:11 (NASB)

Last to Leave

At my place this morning it’s one of the days that makes you want to sing some old Carpenters classics.

I spent my weekend hanging out in Isaiah 41, which I mentioned on Friday.  However, I read the chapter backwards and ended up in verse 4 by the end of the weekend.  Again in the simpler English of the Message

4 “Who did this? Who made it happen?
Who always gets things started?
I did. God. I’m first on the scene.
I’m also the last to leave.  Isaiah 41:4 (MSG)

There’s some serious comfort to me knowing that he is the first on the scene and the last to leave. I hope that provides your with strength and motivation today as well.

Bring him glory!

I Will

I have some obligations this Friday morning that are taking me away from my keyboard, so here is a short post that is full of goodness.  This actually sums up what is on my mind this morning quite well:

10 Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear for I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you. Isaiah 41:10 MSG

Remember that as you are doing what you need to do today. And as with each Friday in 2014, make the weekend worthy, 38 remain! I think it will be garden time for me!

If you can?

Following yesterday’s rhetorical question about God’s sovereignty here is another rather funny incident where Jesus asks a very similar rhetorical question.

“ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:23, 24 NIV)

Can’t you just hear the almost sarcasm in Jesus his voice when he says if you can? This is in response to this question from a demon possessed boy’s father.

But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us. (Mark 9:22 NIV)

It is almost like you can hear Jesus’ frustration with the people he is around. It’s like he wants to say “people don’t you remember God can do anything! Of course I can heal this boy!”
And of course he can still do anything, because he is in control. Oh to have the faith to actually believe that!

Too Hard?

Ever have a tough day?  Ever be in a spot where are not sure if you can continue?  Check out these words:

27 “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?

Jeremiah 32:27 (NIV)

These words really spoke to me last weekend when I read them. Not that I was particular down or facing a large task, but the whole concept of the Lord being the creator of everything and asking the rhetorical question “is anything too hard for me?” certainly provided clarity about where my strength can come from.  That combined with the many verses where the Lord is begging us to ask him for help, and really for whatever we need, surely bring comfort and confidence to me as I face whatever the day, any day,  holds.

He is sovereign and is in control and cares a whole lot for us.  What have I to fear? What have you to fear?
