Trust God with Your Lunch

Yesterday afternoon I was listening to a John Maxwell talk that he delivered at the Catalyst Conference back in 2012.  It’s a pretty impressive 30 minute delivery with a lot of really good nuggets about life change and leadership.   Towards the end of the talk he tells the audience that he wants to leave them with one thought, and that thought is to “Trust God with Your Lunch”.

He reminded the audience of the story of the 5 loaves and how the little boy with the lunch didn’t need a miracle – he had his lunch.  But he was the vehicle to bless all those around him.  The idea he represented which really resounded with me was this – trust God with your lunch and let him use you to impact those around you!  Simple, straightforward and doable – Today.

Lord, my heart is not proud;

    my eyes are not haughty.
I don’t concern myself with matters too great
or too awesome for me to grasp.
Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself,
like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk.
Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.

Trust God with your lunch and let him work in you.  Before long you will be able to trust him with so much more.

Take Care of It

It’s Earth Day and I can’t help but be reminded on one of the reasons that the Creator placed us on this great big ball.

15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.  Genesis 2:15 New International Version (NIV)

Make sure you do your part everything day to honor God, but working and take care of his creation!

Sounds, Winds and Trees

Last night I was awoken by the sounds of the wind ripping around the corner of my home and banging on the screen door outside my sleeping chamber.  As I opened my eyes I could see those darn view stealing trees bending and swaying.  So, since this seems to be my time to observe storms I laid there and monitor their progress for some time, hoping they yield to the wind and return to me the vistas which lie so pleasantly beyond their stance.   That was not be, as those guys are firmly root, and were established well by their gardener many years ago, and they stand as a reminder and an example for my spirit to follow.

16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  Ephesians 3:16-19 (NIV)

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7(NIV)

Behind you

Just a quick thought for today.  Here’s a promise from the Lord via Isaiah to the his people.  I know this had a very specific context when these words were placed on paper oh so many years ago, but I like to think this is still true for us today.

20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. 21 And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:20-21

Don’t Look Back

I am not sure why, but the Boston song “Don’t Look Back” from way back in 1978 is circulating around in my mind this morning. Considering lots of things, there may be a reason for that to be my anthem today, however, it’s also a fairly good way to approach everyday. And it seems pretty consistent with some dude from 2000 years ago who said these words on top of a little hillside.

31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6 NIV

Take care of today and do the needful!
