Lay Me Down

As any long time reader knows I get a lot of inspiration from music, and that has been pretty clear this week as well.   Early this month, Chris Tomlin released his new collection of songs and I have to say, I can’t get enough of it.  I highly recommend that you take a least a preview listen at your favorite music store.

For most of the week, I have cycling the prayer found in the middle of the song “Lay Me Down”, so I can’t help but write about it today.

“It will be my joy to say your will, your way – Always!”

Don’t you wish that this is really how you lived?  That it would be considered a joy to turn over your will to the Lord.  It’s a great pounding song with some thought-provoking lyrics – sort of the modern verse of ‘I Surrender All’!  And one that is full of prayers to help us turn over our will and lay our selves down and the foot of the Creator of the World.  The one who has provided us with unimaginable promises!

Take a listen and consider the joy you can get from letting the Lord lead.

I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps. Jeremiah 10:23 ESV

Plays Well with Others

I ran across this quote yesterday and that it was pretty good.

Promote yourself, but do not demote another.Israel Salanter

I might not agree 100 percent with the first part of self promotion, however, this same thought has been on my mind a lot over the last two weeks as I deal with stuff at work.  It has made me an even firmer believer that tearing down others to get your way just isn’t the way to go.  I have watched a few cases of this bullying behavior lately, and it really has impressed me. Not in a “That’s Awesome” sort of way.  More of in a “How repulsive” sort of way.

As we, as followers of the Christ, go through our day,  we have responsibilities in our employment to share ideas and even to promote our own thinking (to God’s glory of course!).  But we have no room to do that at the sake of destroy or demoting or belittling others.  Or as one of my coworkers said last fall when he was working on peer reviews – “Do no harm”.

So today, be honest, be helpful but don’t demote belittle and demean those you meet!  ( I hope I follow this advice myself!)

So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12 ESV

Wear It Well

Here’s a simple little prayer for today, taken from the lyrics of the Everyday Sunday song ‘Stand Up’,

I will stand up now, I Will not step down. I will do my best to wear this crown. But I need You as You guide me through today.

A crown you say?  What crown?

Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:8 NIV

Wear it well today!

Arise!

It’s a Carpenters sort of morning here in the southeast, but we can’t let that stop us from having a great attitude.  Consider these words as you approach the day.

“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive-to breathe, to think, to enjoy to love” Marcus Aurelius

and while you are thinking about that, lets remember where our life comes from.  And maybe a trip to the valley of the dry bones will take us away from this rain and yuck and remind us why we are so privileged this morning to be alive.

This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’” Ezekiel 37:5

and I just love this a few verses later

I will put my Spirit in you and you will live 37:14

How privileged are we to walk around today living with the Spirit of the creator in us.

To steal a simple prayer from Chris Tomlin’s new song Awake My Soul

Breathe on me, breath of God, breathe on me, I come alive, I’m alive when You breathe on me

First Things First

Hey it’s Number One Priority Day. That’s right it’s 1/11! That’s three ones. So it seems this is a good day to put first things first and make sure that your priorities are correct!  Maybe this is a good verse to help set those priorities?

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Romans 12:9 (NLT)

What would be some others?
And what else would you use to set first things first?
