Measure

So here we see again, a ‘pastor’ who doesn’t tip well and lets the waiter staff not it with his Bible knowledge.  Why is it the most waiters/waitresses hate the Sunday lunch crowd?  Let us not be known for this:

but be known as people who are generous with grace, mercy and yes, money.

38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”  Luke 6:38 (NIV)

Titanium Renewal

Oh Twitter, despite what Coach Harbaugh says, you are not a waste of time , but a source of constant motivation! Like this great text I saw re-tweeted this morning by an old friend of mine. I had to share this with you guys today. This comes for a twitter account named ‘Shakespeare Remix’.

You blast me bottomward, nevertheless I shan’t cascade, I am a chemical element with the symbol Ti.

Yeah! that’s some good inspiration in the style of the old poet that should get you ready to deflect and manage what’s thrown at you today!  and why would it not work – you’ve already been renewed!

That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 2 Corinthians 4:16 NLT

Sharpening

In the back of my mind I often think about this Proverb as I look for people to interact with.

17 As iron sharpens iron,
so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)

Mostly because I find that I usually am in a great need of being sharpened!  A dull blade, or life or mind, is not very useful.  And it is through the challenge of others that we grow and become usable and are ready for whatever comes our way.  So, that is one reason that I force myself to attend a weekly Bible focused conversation with a rag-tag group of like-minded men.

Well, those men, with a bunch of others are heading off to strengthen each other with one of those fancy-dancy retreats.  And some of those guys put together a video that I thought would be worth sharing.  For two reasons.  First ( and I usually don’t do this here, but here goes!) if any men out there want to join us – come on! (Just get your money in this week 🙂 ) Second, and probably more applicable, for your entertainment!  It’s a pretty funny and well done teaser.

Either way.  Make sure you are finding others that will continue to sharpen you, and in doing so, you will probably help sharpen others!

Grace and Kazoos

Last week, I rediscovered to this particular verse in Matthew that describes the way Jesus looked at the people around him.

36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Matthew 9:36 New International Version (NIV)

Wow.  What a challenge – being able to see people like that!  It’s one of those traits of Jesus that I fall short of quite often – one that makes me very glad for his grace.

Speaking of grace, take a look at the Worlds Largest Kazoo Band playing Amazing Grace. (skip to about the 4:00 mark).  That’s a great way to celebrate  National Kazoo Day!!

But I digress.  Today, as you look at those around you, stop, and think about how Jesus looked at them, at all of us!  Take a moment and view them through his eyes, and let that change the way you interact with them.  Pour out grace, kindness, compassion, and his love on them.  It will make a huge difference!

Oats for Friday

As we continue moving through National Oatmeal Month, we have stumbled upon another Friday, one that evidently will be topped off with Burns Night celebrations.  A night where people supposedly remember the author of the good old January favorite “Auld Lang Syne”!

Anyway, here’s a little comfort verse, one that might be a little oatmeal for your spirit!

38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:38-39 New Living Translation (NLT)

Happy Burns Night!
