Let’s Be Irrational

Today is ‘e’-day, February 7 or 2/7 or 2.718281828459…

That’s right today on the seventh of February some mathematicians decided to honor the irrational number ‘e’, which if you want to know, is explained quite well here.  For those not so daring, just suffice it to say it’s a number that is the backbone for lots of logarithms and usually has its own key on advanced calculators.  So that alone tells you it’s right up there with zero thru nine!

So today, in honor of this dubious number, let’s be irrational. Maybe like this

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat;    if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head,
and the Lord will reward you. Proverbs 25:21022 (NIV)

or  like this

14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. Philippians 2:14-16 (NIV)

or maybe by being like on irrational number and never stopping!

Titanium Renewal

Oh Twitter, despite what Coach Harbaugh says, you are not a waste of time , but a source of constant motivation! Like this great text I saw re-tweeted this morning by an old friend of mine. I had to share this with you guys today. This comes for a twitter account named ‘Shakespeare Remix’.

You blast me bottomward, nevertheless I shan’t cascade, I am a chemical element with the symbol Ti.

Yeah! that’s some good inspiration in the style of the old poet that should get you ready to deflect and manage what’s thrown at you today!  and why would it not work – you’ve already been renewed!

That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 2 Corinthians 4:16 NLT

5 Days, 5 Islands, 703 Miles…

Yep, it’s Friday, and you probably feel like you are finishing the fifth of five epic days.  How can you go on and make it through this last day?   Maybe this will give you a little inspiration, as you probably are not about to tackle your fifth Ironman Triathlon this week.  Yes, that’s right 5 Ironmans in one week – or should I say 5 days.  It’s called Epic5 and it happens at the end of Oct.   You might call it crazy.  You might find that insane.  I think it’s great motivation to keep you going on this Friday.

If they can do that with the bodies God gave them, what can you do today with what God gave you?

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 New International Version (NIV)

Let’s Go!

Sharpening

Yesterday I thought I would take a nice easy 20 minute swim so I could let my mind drift and think about some stuff. Otherwise, I have to concentrate too much on counting the laps.

About 8 laps in, well I don’t really know because I wasn’t counting Anyway, about 8 laps in, a guy sat down on the wall in the lane next to me, and the next time I pushed off that wall he started his swim- and matched me stroke for stroke. So much for the easy swim! For the next 15 minutes we swam mostly side by side, he eventually backed off the pace a little :)!
And I was glad! It was good to be pushed. It was good to be made to focus and to go even when I wanted to take the turn easy.

And so we should be each day with our mates.

Iron sharpens iron,

and one man sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17 ESV)

Make Sure to Work It

I ran a Mud Run in town a few weeks ago.  It was  fun and challenging, but was pretty tame compared to the hard core runs like the Tough Mudder!  I’m find inspiration from those guys that do those hard core mud runs like.  I follow them on The Twitters to stay encouraged.  Last week they shared this quote from an old basketball coach that you may recognize.

“There is no substitute for work. Worthwhile results come from hard work and planning” – John Wooden

Yep, no substitute for work*.  Keep training and keep working!

20 Are you so slow? Do you need to be shown that faith without actions has no value at all? James 2:20 Common English Bible (CEB)

* well there is one substitute for work when it comes to salvation. 🙂  But it’s because of that salvation that we do work! and Work hard!
