Time to Start Shopping

Yes! It’s almost here. In some places it already is, according to NORAD. So I need to get offline and start shopping! 🙂

Enjoy this magical day with your family and friends, and spread hope and joy!

And remember the bearer of your salvation has been born!

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21 NIV)

Not Slack

Time has been merciful and I am able to get another post in today!  As I took the garbage to the street this morning, I monitored carefully for Zombies or Aliens! 🙂 Seeing none, I sprinted to the street and back, just in case!

We all know that one day will be the end, if not for everyone, one day will be our last individually.  It’s something that we all know is out there, and will sneak up on us like a thief in the night

For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.1 Thessalonians 5:2New Living Translation (©2007)

We cannot worry about it, or be too anxious, however we should look forward to the day, like a child looks toward Christmas, or maybe even like the way so many were watching and waiting for his birth here on Earth.  And while he tarries, we must take advantage of everyday that we are graciously given, and use it as another opportunity to do good and be the light!

34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray   Luke 21

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.  2 Peter 3:9 New International Version (NIV)

Enjoy today, it still might be the last! 🙂

Tomorrow?

I suppose this could be the last post I get to write, as tomorrow holds a lot of uncertainty for the continuation of time. So if the apocalypse happens, well, it has been fun! And hey aren’t we really supposed to live like there is no tomorrow everyday?

Carpe diem!

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34 NIV)

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” (James 4:13-15 NIV)

So maybe I will get to post tomorrow or maybe not , but either way it will be if it is the Lord’s will!

Look to Others

Maybe you saw in the last few days there has been an online campaign called #20Acts of Random Kindness.  This is a way that some are honoring those killed in the incident in Newtown last week.  The idea is to practice an act of kindness to honor each victim.  When I first saw this I was sort of ho-hum about it.  This is a great idea, and I have seen lots of online feedback from people doing great things for others.  And, as you know, I write about acts of kindness quite often.  My reaction, however, was founded in the idea that this is how we should be treating each other all the time, not only in a period of strong reaction.  My prayer is that regular readers of this blog are already attempting to live a life where you are always on the look out to find ways where you can practice acts of kindness.  If not, this is a good time to jump on the bandwagon, just don’t stop, make this a habit.

not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:4 New International Version (NIV)

Look to others today.

Share Christmas

Wow, It’s just one week away. Christmas is upon us.  Here are a couple things that may get you into the Christmas spirit and help you remember what a great hope we have in the birth of that little baby in a barn two thousand years ago.

The first thing is the Christmas Story Tracker from YouVersion.  Supposedly, each time a person reads the story of the birth of the Christ, they increase the counter and place a star on the map where it’s happening.  It’s pretty interesting.  So, read the story, and light up a star!

The second is this clip of the birth from the new History Channel series that will be airing in the 5 Sundays leading up to Easter in the spring.  Check out the scene from Bethlehem. It’s pretty good telling, although I think some of it moves a little from the words captured in scripture – but hey, I wasn’t there!  I especially love the look on Mary and Joseph’s face at the end.  I know they had great faith and heard what the angel Gabriel had told them, but when all those events took place with their baby boy, I am certain the astonishment was amazing.  If only we could have that same sort of astonishment and joy when we think about the coming of the Christ!

10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.  Luke 2:1-11
