Bye Bye 2012!

Wow, I jumped up this morning, spent a moment watching a fiery red and orange sunrise and got right to work on some stuff in the empty house, and forgot all about writing a post!  That’s not a great way to end the year, but I have been really productive in my most favorite time of the day- the early morning.

That sort of reminds me of this quote I stumble upon recently

“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive-to breathe, to think, to enjoy to love” Marcus Aurelius

Yep, today the sunsets on the year we called 2012, and all of those hopes, dreams, and memories will go down over the horizon.  Tomorrow, is a new day, and a new year starts!  Yeah!

But really, we should remember that each day is a new start and a new chance to live this one life we have.  Tomorrow may be a new year, but today, today is a new day.  Let’s us treasure it, and use it for his glory!

15… so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:15-17 New International Version (NIV)

Last Friday of 2012

It’s the last Friday of the year, and I am a little late posting this morning, the pillow was my friend this morning.

As the year closes, it’s a good time to think about how you did own your goals this year, and the one word 365 thing we spoke of back in January.  My word was STRETCH, and I feel pretty good about how that has worked for me, although I think I become distracted from that a bit in the last 8 weeks or so.  I will reveal my word for 2013 next week, but this is a reminder to you and encouragement to consider one word this weekend.

And here is something else to consider today and this weekend as you ponder your word.  I love this tweet from Nike Running

especially the hash tag #In2013NoMore, which evidently is big on Twitter now.

Anyway, I hope In2013ThereIsMore of this:

11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor. 1 Peter 2:11-17

Blues

It seems to have the makings of one of those Post Christmas blues sort of days.  All the anticipation is over, all the presents are open, and you are just stuck with cleaning up and taking down all of those great decorations and the rest of Winter without lights and cool songs.  ( doesn’t it make you wonder why Christmas is not in mid February?)

But hey, fear not.  The Lord is still as much the Lord as he was on Tuesday!  And that’s good news for all of us

15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.  1 Timothy 1:15-17 New International Version (NIV)

Yeah, Let’s go!

And he grew

The baby Jesus left Bethlehem and set out on a life that was focused on a single mission- to redeem man! And so must follow his example and leave Bethlehem behind on this Boxing Day, and set out even more focused on our mission of putting our own selfs under subjection to his will and striving daily to love others and teach them of him each and every day!

And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him. (Luke 2:40 NIV)

Merry Christmas

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. (Luke 2:10, 11 NIV)

Yes!
