Rise and Grind

Yesterday while monitoring my Twitter feed for nuggets of goodness, I discovered via NikeRunning this dude Jason Lester, a mega-endurance athlete who is biking and running his way across the country for Nike.  Check this out:

WOW!  That’s incredible.  Oh did I mention he biked 80 miles on Tuesday! Oh and did I mention his right arm is paralyzed?

This guy is biking and running from Nike Store to Nike Store to promote Nike’s Better World promotion.  You can learn more and follow Jason here and here.  Being a runner myself, I am pretty amazed at the endurance and drive this guy has.  You can see a short clip of his story here.

What I really love, and I can see why, is that he ends a lot of his tweets with the hashtag #TeamNeverStop!  Which is also the name of a foundation his has started. What a monster and what an inspiration to keep going.

If you are finding it hard to get through the challenges in front of you, maybe it will help to think about Jason out on the road grinding it out and that will give you some motivation to Never Stop!

That’s sort of like what the prophet Azariah told Asa

7But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” 2 Chronicles 15:7 New International Version (NIV)

and what Paul told Timothy

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. 2 Tim 1:7 (AMP)

Rise and Grind!

one of THOSE days

It’s not even 9 in the morning, I already feel like quitting for the day.

You ever have a day like that? From the moment the alarm goes off things just are not “on frame” – as they say in soccer. You can’t find stuff, teenagers are doing their best at being, well, teenagers. Then there are schedules, pressure, etc etc etc etc.

Today’s one of those days. So I am trying to slip in a little bit of motivation for myself ( and you) before I get whisked away in the land of endless emails.

So, a few verses I am trying to consider today, to reduce the anxiety and refocus my brain:

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 ESV

But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded. 2 Chronicles 15:7 ESV

and then there is this one below.  This is a verse that most of the time we may not attribute to encouragement on a difficult day.  However I find it both humbling and full of purpose. It seems to emphasis the only task for the day that really matters and provides a little bit of clarity about the things that are causing stress.

But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24 ESV

If your day has started like mine, spend a moment to recenter on the one mission and goal for the day – “the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”

Stick to Itiveness Award

Earlier this week while we were messing around Innoventions at Epcot, we ended up in a ‘game show’ that was to teach us about the merits of Velcro! Turns out this involved audience participation, and yes both Alex and Andrew were a team in one game and Amy and I in the other.  We both lost.  But we did receive a reward anyway the Stick-to-it-iveness Award. YEAH!

And today I extend that reward out to you.  Its Friday, its the end of a long work week for some of you.  For others it’s just another day in the long days of life.  Well here is your reward.  Keep going, keep sticking to it!

7 But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.  2 Chronicles 15:7 (New International Version)
