It’s Great Friday

Ok, yes, it’s been a few days since I have posted. Let me apologize for that, I ‘withdrew to the mountains’ for a few days for a great family vacation and was unable to set up posts for the last 4 days.

But today it is good Great Friday!!! And I can only think of one verse that sums up the whole weekend for us:

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:5-11 NIV)

Do good and be like our example The Christ!

Happy World Water Day

Today is World Water Day!  I hope that you spend a few moments consider how fortunate you are to have such easy access to water.  for instance last weekend my Dad and I installed 2 fifty gallon rain barrels on Saturday and they were full on Monday mid day.  It’s such a blessing to have an abundance of good clean water!  So as you walk to the faucet today, say a little prayer of thanksgiving and realize how precious that simple clear stream is!

And then take a moment to remember this simple story of a women who went to the well to draw some water, and got something worth so much more!

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.” John 4 NIV

and then maybe you will utter that same little prayer as that women “Sir, give me this water…..”

God is with Us!

No matter whats going on in your life today, this is a great Psalm to remember

Psalm 46:1-3

Good News Translation (GNT)

God Is with Us

46 God is our shelter and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken
and mountains fall into the ocean depths;
even if the seas roar and rage,
and the hills are shaken by the violence.

Do Good, and glorify the one who gives you shelter and strength.

Fruit

I find that it’s always good to be reminded what fruit I should be really thinking about producing, as it’s so easy to produce fruit that is invaluable!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23NIV

I wish I could say my tree always produced this way.

Trapped

I have had a pesky raccoon around the house and in the garage, so I thought it would be good to relocate him to a location that would be removed from my location!  ( ie, make him another persons’ problem!  )

Anyway, I set out the trap Sunday night, and caught my first victim on Monday – my own cat.  geesh!

Last night, I change the bait, and reset the trap, with in the hour I had another victim.  This time a big ugly opossum.   I released the little guy and off he waddled – appearing to have his head down and his tail between his legs like  he was saying “I am so stupid, I will never do that again.!”

Well, I reset the trap, and went off to bed.   During the night I could hear something thrashing around in the cage and so I threw back the covers and went to investigate.

Guess who was there?

AGAIN!

No, not the cat, the ‘possum.  This time he tried to play dead. I guess he was thinking I would not be able to see him lying there paying the penalty for his greed, for fulfilling his desire for oranges and peanut butter.

Caught again, in the same trap, going after the same thing.

Of course, at the time, I had a hearty laugh, until I got ready to write this morning.  Then I thought about the parallel to our own lives.   How many times do we go back, over and over to the same trap that doesn’t really produce the reward we had anticipated.  We end up wallowing all night in our own mess, just like my little buddy in the back yard.

Luckily, we are not alone in the trap and we have a way out.

21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! Romans 7
