84 I Miss You

My co teacher and I lamented this weekend when we discovered the 1984 version of the NIV Bible was not available at our favorite online Bible sites any longer.  What a pain!  There are lots of places where that’s the one that makes the most sense.  Plus we are getting old and that is the version we memorized!!! 🙂  The one we know!

Anyway, here is one verse for a Monday that definitely is better in the 84 version.

I run in the path of your commands,

For you have set my heart free. Psalm 119:32

Free! I like that idea so my better than “broadened my understanding!

But either way, running in the path of his commands yields some pretty great results, so maybe, we should check the path we are running on today.

Lighting!?

Oh it’s that day in March when you should be watching your back, and that’s a great opportunity to think about how the Christ responded to those who “stabbed him in the back”.  Check it out

33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:33-35 New International Version (NIV)

Man, I so wish he example was to call down lightning from heaven!  But nope, he says, forgive.

Think about that!

Pi Day = Yeah!

What can I say about Pi day that has not been said?  I have written about mathematics and pi in the bible, and you should read about those again! 🙂

When I think about Pi, I think about circles, for obvious reasons, and that makes me think about completeness, and that reminds me of these words

2 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Philippians 2:1-2 (NIV)

and remember our Pi Day formula for two years ago.

Let M = Mercy, P = Peace, L = Love and U = you. Therefore:

GreatPiDay = ((M+P+L)*U)^Spirit

Tea, Joy and Ducks

Today happens to be Donald Duck’s birthday, or at least one of the dates that might be his birthday.  This guy provides a strong argument for his point of view.

Thinking about ducks, makes me think about the fellas from Duck Commander, which besides my propensity to drink sweet tea and my love for the Lord, I do not have very much in common with.  (Well there is the beautiful wife thing as well I suppose!)

Any maybe one more thing; I love that those guys are so full of joy! Evidenced by their ‘Happy Happy Happy’ slogan, which tends to be a long way from the attitude of Donald!  But lets celebrate his day with joy, and lets also remember that as Nehemiah says ‘the joy of the Lord is your strength.’

The precepts of the Lord are right,

giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.  Psalm 19:8 (NIV)

A Simple Peace

Today just a quick look at a nice easy Psalm of David.

131 Lord, my heart is not proud;

    I don’t look down on others.
I don’t do great things,
and I can’t do miracles.
But I am calm and quiet,
like a baby with its mother.
I am at peace, like a baby with its mother.

People of Israel, put your hope in the Lord
now and forever.   Psalm 131 (NCV)
