A Valentine’s Poem

A little familiar poem for today:

1 Corinthians 13

1 I may speak in different languages of people or even angels. But if I do not have love, I am only a noisy bell or a crashing cymbal. 2 I may have the gift of prophecy. I may understand all the secret things of God and have all knowledge, and I may have faith so great I can move mountains. But even with all these things, if I do not have love, then I am nothing. 3I may give away everything I have, and I may even give my body as an offering to be burned. But I gain nothing if I do not have love. 4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud.5 Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not get upset with others. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. 6 Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices over the truth. 7 Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always endures.

8 Love never ends. There are gifts of prophecy, but they will be ended. There are gifts of speaking in different languages, but those gifts will stop. There is the gift of knowledge, but it will come to an end.9 The reason is that our knowledge and our ability to prophesy are not perfect.10 But when perfection comes, the things that are not perfect will end.11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I stopped those childish ways.12 It is the same with us. Now we see a dim reflection, as if we were looking into a mirror, but then we shall see clearly. Now I know only a part, but then I will know fully, as God has known me.13 So these three things continue forever: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.

So, what are you going to do with this great thing?

Happy V-Day

Its Valentines Day, and so I think its appropriate for a little romantic poem:

Rose are Red
Violets are blue
I like to blog
but I stink at Haiku!

Many moons ago on this very day, Amy and I enjoyed our first date together – Dinner at Dalt’s and movie. Yeah, I know – pretty cheesy right – first date on Valentines, but let me tell that night quickly pushed my previous best Valentines memory to the background – the memory of being in the fourth grade and it finally being my turn to have one of my drawings copied of the old mimeograph machine. I still remember drawing old Snoopy and Woodstock on that blue paper, with the words Happy V-Day in the talking bubble. Anyway, the very best part of that first date with Amy, besides being lucky enough to be allowed to spend the evening with her, was that there was another one the very next day, and they haven’t stopped since!

So, it’s the day we remember and recognize our love for others. I hope you take a moment to confirm that to those around you whether it be with flowers, chocolate or a simple note or word. It’s important for us to hear and to tell those around us how we feel.

Also take a moment to remember where love comes from. Enjoy the Day!

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:7-11 (New International Version, ©2010)

Hey Guys – need some Valentine Cards that will definitely keep the romance in the air.  Check these out.  I used them – the work great!

I remember making Valentine boxes. Well, I guess I remember just decorating a bag.  Not anymore, my oldest made a pirate ship one year for Valentine’s Day and this is what my youngest is taking today.  Complex:

And you know, no Valentine’s Day would really be complete with a reference to 1 Corinthians 13. Make sure you are doing everything with love not just this weekend but all the time.

1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
