Mercy Exists

Over the last few days I have been writing alot (and thinking alot) about humility and reducing your own self thought – and giving it over to God.  This is a harder thing to put into practice then it seems on paper, but we all know that when you do it always works out.   The rest we get, the inner peace, it is absolutely amazing.  However, you can’t stop, its an everyday thing.  Hebrews 4 talks about this a little bit.  It holds up that ultimate rest and peace that we will attain when we hold fast and be diligent and submit ourselves everyday.

So today hold fast to your confession, and live boldly knowing the victory is yours.  Be transformed by humility, and mercy and grace!

Hebrews 4:14-16 (New International Version)

14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,[a] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Took 14,018 showers!

Well, I woke up this morning with a classic Veggie Tune in my head:

Laura: I can’t believe it’s Christmas!
I think I’m finally gettin’ something
Can’t believe it’s Christmas,
My favorite time of year!

Percy: I can’t believe it’s Christmas!
Been dreaming of a sugar-plum thing
Can’t believe it’s Christmas,
Oh, boy! It’s finally here!

Dinkletown children: Ho, ho! Away we go!
With rosey cheeks and hearts aglowin’
Hey, hey! Our favorite day!
It makes us want to cheer!

(listen here)

I think the best line is little Lenny saying:

Lenny: Took 14,018 showers!

Anyway, its Christmas, and its a great time of the year.  More of that later in the month.  For now, following on some previous posts, and because of some thoughts I have on relationships and managing them that I will also post later ( tomorrow I think), today enjoy one of the starting points of deep faith.  Break yourself before God. Did you read that?   Break yourself.  Cast your cares on him. He wants them.  And he will lift you up.

1 Peter 5:6-7 (New International Version)

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

When you are not singing today, spend some quieter moments considering humility, and what being humble before God really means.  Also think about how that manifests itself in relationships with people.

Percy: Yo, ho! We love the snow!

Letting it Go

There are times in your life when you feel like you are in complete control.  Its amazing that its during these times that usually things go out of control!  God has a funny way of keeping us humble, it we don’t keep ourselves there.  But its in these times when we are not in control, or in times when you feel completely broken that great things can happen!

Take a look at this from the pen of Paul:

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (New International Version)

7To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Absolutely Amazing!  Can we accept this?  Can we accept that we are stronger when we completely rely on God?  Can we accept not being in control?  Can we be more glad in our weakness, in our hardtimes, in our difficulties?

Think deeply about this and see how this can transform you to be more dependent on Christ and less dependent on yourself.

Have a great (rainy) Wednesday!
