Do Something Useful

One of my coworkers passed along this “Pep Talk” video last week.  I have to admit I thought it was more of the propaganda that he was pushing at first ! :).  But really this is a good little talk from a small child, just a reminder to make sure we take advantage of what we have and make it count.

This sort of reminds me of this admonishing from long ago, as my boy Paul writes this to his dear friend Titus

14 Our people should learn to spend their time doing something useful and worthwhile. Titus 3:14 (CEV)

or from the NIV

14 Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.

Trustworthy Sayings

Well sometings on a Monday all you need is something simple and concrete to get you going and back into the swing of things.  And frankly(I love saying that because CEO of my company used to say this all the time, during his public addresses), thats all I have the brain to deliver today.  I spent a little time with Paul and Titus this weekend and these rules for good living seemed apropos to share this morning.

3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. 10.8.10

I have been waiting for months to write a post on 10/10/10, because I think it’s such a cool date.  You know me and “fun with numbers”.  Imagine my disappointment when I realized that it was on the weekend.  “Dime Day” was going to generate some sort of good post about being a ‘perfect 10’ or being well balanced or some other goofy thought that would have popped into my head.

But as usually, I am a little short.  1″ short of 6 feet, and posting on 10/8/10.  That’s just not as cool is it?  It looks more like a test result then a date!

Anyway, falling short of being the perfect 10 is ok, and today we will remind ourselves that we don’t have to have everything together and be perfect to warrant the mercy of God. Its not us, its him!  Sort of like this quote from Ghandi:

“My imperfections and failures are as much a blessing from God as my successes and my talents and I lay them both at his feet.”

and this from Paul in his letter to Titus:

4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life

Enjoy the almost perfect day!

National Man Day

Yo Yo, Its National Man Day! Sorry ladies, it appears this is the day we can go unshaven, wear our shirts untucked, grunt, snort, brush our teeth with bacon and do all the manly stuff that, well, makes us men!

I am just not sure how to celebrate, but I can tell you I will not be reading Twilight or eating croissants. I am thinking that walking around the house in boxers and dark socks may be a good start.  Or maybe a good Chuck Norris movie, or how about unloading the fire arms in the back yard!

No matter how you spend National Man Day, here are a few things that all men should consider everyday:

25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— Ephesians 5:25-29 NIV

2Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. …. 6Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. 7In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.  Titus 2: 2, 6-8 (NIV)

Men, you can’t argue with that!  So go out and show your manliness, and make sure you are loving your wives, and living a life with integrity!

Get r dun.
