Grit

I was up early this morning doing sanding some drywall, trying to get this wall ready to paint.  I can’t relate to you how much I had to sand anything.  It’s so tedious.  But the results when you are finished – Oh wow!.  It’s always amazing to watch something rough and raged turn into something smooth and useful.

What I am glad it that our creator must like sanding, because I think he really gets joy out of the final product – especially when it ( us) bring him glory. So you may be up against the grit now.  Just let it keep refining you, and I think you will be amazed how that makes you better in the end.

Praise our God, all peoples,
let the sound of his praise be heard;
he has preserved our lives
and kept our feet from slipping.
10 For you, God, tested us;
you refined us like silver.
11 You brought us into prison
and laid burdens on our backs.
12 You let people ride over our heads;
we went through fire and water,
but you brought us to a place of abundance. Ps 66:8-12 NIV

NutCakes

When National Pancake Day and World Nutella Day collide on the same day, you know it’s going to be a good day!

What else needs to be said?

Except maybe this?

21-25 Thank you for responding to me;
you’ve truly become my salvation!
The stone the masons discarded as flawed
is now the capstone!
This is God’s work.
We rub our eyes—we can hardly believe it!
This is the very day God acted—
let’s celebrate and be festive!
Salvation now, God. Salvation now!
Oh yes, God—a free and full life! Psalm 118:24The Message (MSG)

Jump-Start

Man, it must be car problem week!  On this chilly morning, I went out to start-up the ol’ truck and no go.  Fortunately, there was still someone around to jump me off.  But for some reason I bet I will be stuck in the parking garage late this afternoon. (Any one want to go ahead and schedule a jump-start?)

But, it makes for easy material!  Like this:

Do you even feel like battery is low and you need a jump-start?  Check this out:

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,    the Maker of heaven and earth. Ps 121:1-2 NIV

OR

How many times do you wake up in the morning and can’t get your battery cranking?  Well Remember this:

This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10

Yeah, I know.  So… cheesy!   But the message there is not – not at all.  So,  keep it going today, remember He was not broken for nothing.  Get out their and “light someone’s candle” (or should I say – give someone a jump-start !! 🙂 )!

Day to Day

A few weeks ago Relevant Magazine posted an article on 5 things millennials would regret as they age.  I didn’t think I was in the millennial group , but those 5 sure hit home with me.  What I loved even more was this quote.

It seems like every other singer-songwriter on the radio charges us to, “Live like you are dying,” But it might be more helpful—if less catchy—for them to sing, “Live like you were an eighty-year-old with a time machine.”

Which is even more funny to me, because I have recently been reciting a small piece of a hip hop song from DJ Drama called My Moment in my head.  Yeah, I know that’s surprising!  Anyway, his lyrics go like this

I’m tired of living day to day like everything’s alright..

It’s Friday, we are leaving work behind for a few days and heading to the weekend.  How are you going to live like an 80-year-old with a time machine?

So teach us to number our days, that we may acquire a wise heart. Psalm 90:12 Darby Bible Translation

This is your Moment.. Facebook, or…

A Friday Prayer

Here is a good prayer for Friday, and the weekend, borrowed from David.

14 I hope my words and thoughts please you.

    Lord, you are my Rock, the one who saves me.  Psalm 19:14 New Century Version (NCV)
