It’s the crazy full moon

It’s that crazy full moon again, and the kids are letting all the teachers know that with their subtle behavior changes.

Now back to our blog…

I am not sure what the moon stage has to do with anything, but I think they beginning of this entry today demonstrates the scattered interior of my brain today.  I have several half baked ideas, but nothing that is worthy of even a bad post ( which may be where this is heading anyway).

But here is one thing that I think is interesting.  Sunday, I was teaching a class of junior high children about Acts 9 and Saul the Christian Killer’s radical transformation on the way to Damascus.  Towards the end of class I also talked about Brian Welch, the former lead singer of a heavy metal rock band called Korn.  I don’t know Mr Welch, but I read about his testimony on iamsecond.com – a very encouraging web site by the way.  Anywho, Mr. Welch tells a tale that you can watch below, or read about here (by clicking the more content button), in which he had completely lost control to drugs and gets turned around by some words his real estate agent said to him.  His real estate agent walked up to this drug addicted rock star and shared the words of Jesus from Matthew 11:28

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 (New International Version, ©2010)

And those words seemed to lead him to Christ.  He quit Korn, he quit drugs, and he was transformed by the power of the Christ.  Wow.

I am sure his Real Estate agent felt a little weird, and a little crazy, but maybe its ok to be crazy with the full moon.  Maybe it ok to be crazy no matter what the moon phase is.

What will your words do for someone today.

Labor for you Neighbor

Last night Andrew starting watching that classic movie Holes.  By the end of the movie the entire family was sitting around with Andrew enjoying the last few minutes of the movie.  What a great way to end a busy hectic day.

But anyway, when the hero of the movie, Stanley, ends up his the juvenile correction camp, the camp “doctor” is introducing him around acting all “touchy feeling’ and at the very end of that scene he says.

It should be no labor to be nice to your neighbor.

I think that is such a funny line, but one that seems to have some origins some place else

12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12 (New International Version, ©2010)

Let us remember today, what Mr. Pendanski said and find no labor in our neighbors!

Flying into the Ground

Hey, did you hear about the almost apocalypse that descended on a small Arkansas town on New Year’s Eve.  I guess to prepare Arkansas fans for all the dropped passes in the Sugar Bowl  on New Year’s Eve thousands on black birds fell from the sky – littering yards and hitting people and cars.

Bird people, called birdologists or more often ornithologists, are guessing that the fireworks startled the birds and had them flying around running into stuff and and may have sent them literally flying into the ground.

Stupid birds.

Well, wait a moment, when you think about it, how many times do we drop into chaos when things mess up our nights.  When the fireworks of life start exploding around us, at times we start thrashing and crashing as well.  But here is some help for that.

First remember that God knows you even more then the birds

“Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Matthew 10:29-30

and second he is our protection

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.Psalm 18:2

So remember if things are not going your way, don’t fly into the ground and crash, head towards the stronghold which is our Lord.

You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah Psalm 32:7

Striving

Last night I was sitting around the house, watching the almost Ohio State meltdown, thinking about this whole new year thing, and the fact that the MegaMillions jackpot was 330 Million and I asked myself the question “If you could have anything what would it be?”.  You probably have played this game – the three wishes game.

Once I got past the fact that I don’t need a mansion with a complete wait staff and a built in movie theater, I realized quickly how little I in fact am in need.   I would not have to wish for essentials like  food, or a warm bed, or clothes, or great blessings like a family or a wonderful spouse.

The question quickly moved from ‘what would I want’ to ‘what am I really striving for’?  When I head out the door this morning, what am I working towards?  Is it really an 8GB eye-fi wireless HCSD card for my wife’s new camera, or is it the acceptance of the higher ups at the office, or is it the ability to pay for lunch?  This is when I was reminded gently from the back of my mind that the only thing that really matters is to serve god and to love his creation (i.e. other people).

You know, that takes a lot of stress out of the day.  What are you striving for?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:28-33 (New International Version, ©2010)

Life is So Daily

It’s December 8!  Do you know what’s special about today?  Me neither!  There’s nothing special as far I can tell.  Yes, sure it’s Sinead O’Connor’s birthday and the day NAFTA become a law, but really its just one of those days that insignificant days.

Early this week, Amy’s daily calendar had the saying “Life is so Daily”.  And boy that fits today!  Just another one of those get up and get to it days.

Or, another opportunity to make it something special.  Hey, its December 8, just 2 1/2 weeks until Christmas, another day to celebrate living and to make an impact on people.

Life is so daily, so use today to while you have you it!

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34 (New International Version, ©2010)

That sort of reminds me of one of those good old timey hymns –‘A Beautiful Life’. (Hear it)

Each day I’ll do a golden deed
By helping those who are in need;
My life on earth is but a span,
And so I’ll do the best I can.

And especially the last verse

While going down life’s weary road
I’ll try to lift some trav’ler’s load;
I’ll try to turn the night to day
Make flowers bloom along the way.

Let you light shine, make some flowers bloom and make December 8 special.
