For the past few months a friend of mine has been sharing an email update about one of his friend’s bout with cancer. The emails are forwarded with a constant request for prayer and have always been full of encouragement and praise to God. My friend’s friend – Kirk , is only 29 and has been battling cancer for some time, but yet as you can see in this video here this guy is beast!
He is taking chemo, he has just recently under gone 3 surgeries and yet there he is, out training, out doing clean and jerks, out fighting cancer and out sporting an attitude that comes from only one place.
I hope you find the 9 minutes to view the video some time today and that you take encouragement from Kirk.
At the end of the video he says ” in combat you have close calls and you walk away and your good, but this with, with certain disease like cancer, you wake up,you look in the mirror, you have this nasty scar of your neck…its a reminder everyday of what your fighting, its always with you.”
That’s what it’s about – it’s about fighting, everyday, each and every day. So today, when you are fighting the physical or spiritual battles laid before you, think of Kirk, and remember what you are fighting and don’t give up!
10-12And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.
13-18Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out. (Ephesians 6:10-18, The Message)
