5 Days, 5 Islands, 703 Miles…

Yep, it’s Friday, and you probably feel like you are finishing the fifth of five epic days.  How can you go on and make it through this last day?   Maybe this will give you a little inspiration, as you probably are not about to tackle your fifth Ironman Triathlon this week.  Yes, that’s right 5 Ironmans in one week – or should I say 5 days.  It’s called Epic5 and it happens at the end of Oct.   You might call it crazy.  You might find that insane.  I think it’s great motivation to keep you going on this Friday.

If they can do that with the bodies God gave them, what can you do today with what God gave you?

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 New International Version (NIV)

Let’s Go!

Ye Be Hallowed

I saw this stupid t-shirt recently,

Those who hate,shall hate henceforth

and after the initial ‘ha-ha’, I sayeth to myself, “This shall not be-eth, change is the destiny of man!”

Here’s the proof ( in old English)

Whether ye know not, that wicked men shall not wield the kingdom of God? Do not ye err; neither lechers, neither men that serve maumets [neither men serving to idols], neither adulterers, neither lechers against kind, neither they that do lechery with men,10 neither thieves, neither avaricious men [neither covetous men, or niggards], neither men full of drunkenness, neither cursers, neither raveners, shall wield the kingdom of God.

11 And ye were sometime these things [And these things ye were sometime]; but ye be washed, but ye be hallowed, but ye be justified in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Wycliffe Bible (WYC)

And don’t forget that today

And just in case, that old English be confusing to ye, unto ye I present an approach of more modern lexicon.

9-10 Surely you know that the people who do wrong will not inherit God’s kingdom. Do not be fooled. Those who sin sexually, worship idols, take part in adultery, those who are male prostitutes, or men who have sexual relations with other men, those who steal, are greedy, get drunk, lie about others, or rob—these people will not inherit God’s kingdom.11In the past, some of you were like that, but you were washed clean. You were made holy, and you were made right with God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 New Century Version (NCV)

It’s Friday, so lets Follow!

On the way to the office I sometimes see an older man plodding down the sidewalk. Behind him about 5-8 paces is a younger man, who I assume is the older man’s son.  The younger man is plodding in the same way as his father.  During the winter they usually have on matching coats, and in the summer the usually both adorn a white ‘wife beater’ undershirt.

One leading.

One following.

In some ways, it’s a sad and depressing site.  But in others is a reminder for all of us that follow.

As we walk through life we have so have a father leading us.  However, it’s pretty much up to us if we are going to imitate him, or go our own way.

I feel pretty certain the younger man I see on the road might be a bit uncertain if he went out on his own.  I think there’s a lesson there, waiting to be culled out.

What do you think?

11 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.  1 Corinthians 11:1 King James Version (KJV)

Run to Win

Run to Win!It’s National Running Day!  How exciting is that!  I pretty pumped about it, especially since it was last year about this time that I had to stop running because I could barely walk up and down steps with my knee issues.  Yesterday I ran 4 miles in 32:00.  It’s amazing what specialized treatment, patience and training can do for you physical body.

If you are a runner, you can head over to the National Running Day site and get yourself a personalized badge for Facebook, or wherever, like this one to the left.

You all know that one of my favorite verses, and the verse the provided the name for this blog is about running.

Know ye not that they that run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? Even so run; that ye may attain.

25 And every man that striveth in the games exerciseth self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 I therefore so run, as not uncertainly; so fight I, as not beating the air:

27 but I buffet my body, and bring it into bondage: lest by any means, after that I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected.  1 Corinthians 9:24-27  ASV

said another way and is a little easier to read these days

24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27New Living Translation (NLT)

And the great thing about this verse is that he is really talking about our spiritual lives.  Just like a runner training for a race will exercise discipline and work their physical body, we must to the same as we prepare and train for the spiritual races that we run.

Let’s make sure we run to win!  Train your body and your spirit each day and stay focused on the prize.

Examples

Following up on yesterday’s post about reflection and your response is this little thought I saw somewhere last week.  Again, this is a pretty good brain teaser.  Something that you should stop and really think about.  And make the proper changes, if need be!

If people thought Jesus was like you, what would they like about Jesus?

If you are a follower of the Christ, then this is something that should probably make you consider lots of things.  Lets make sure we are thinking like Paul when he says

11 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.1 Corinthians 11 New International Version (NIV)

How’s your example?
