Only One

Last night my small group spent some time talking about the difference between being busy and being hurried.  It’s was a good conversation, but also surprisingly hard as we tried to draw a line between spending time doing lots of things and letting those things spend you.  Eventually, we took a look at the story of Martha and Mary over the Dr. Luke’s narrative. What the Christ says here is so piercing, but yet so freeing.

41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, Luke 10 41-42 (NASB)

One thing. That’s it. Him. Think about it. Think about what you are hurrying to, if it’s not that one thing, why?

By the way, if you are in town, feel free to come to one of these small group conversations. They are good and will challenge you in many ways.

SHINE A LIGHT ON SLAVERY DAY

I am pretty exciting about Tennessee Senator Bob Corker working so hard to figure out a way to end human trafficking and slavery. It’s been cool to see the red X’s on so many ‘important’ people’s hands.  Today happens to be Shine a Light on Slavery Day.  A day to remind everyone that human slavery still exists, and it still exists in the Land of the Free!

END IT!

Draw a RED X on your hand and post about it on social media using #ENDITMOVEMENT. Tell your world that slavery still exists and you won’t stand for it. Together we can END IT!

And as Christ followers this is an opportunity where we can stand for the oppressed!

Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. Isaiah 1:17

May they also be

I have been in a whirlwind since I was last able to post.  A trip to Gatlinburg with 70 kids, a quick business trip, plumbing issues, and then just all out work!

I took a lot of things away from that great Winterfest weekend, however, one thing that was wonderful to be reminded of was this prayer of the Christ. Just to imagine the Christ there in Gethsemane praying for all the believers that would come in the future.  So meaningful and so encouraging!  Remember who has your back today!

20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. John 17

May WE also be…

Who’s in charge

The weeks is wrapping up and I have finished up several more day of pedestrian interactions and find myself really, really behind in this challenge. 25% of the time is complete and only 8% of the list is complete. I have some work do to. It’s with that that I turn to this little bit of Proverbs.

3 Put God in charge of your work,
then what you’ve planned will take place. Proverbs 16:3 (MSG)

Let’s see what the weekend brings.

Be the Reason

Love this sentence I saw earlier this week.  It seems to fit well with the 100/40 challenge.

Today, be the reason someone feels loved.

Sounds like this:

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works Hebrews 10:24 ESV
