Mine

I have been in ridiculous mode over the last 36 hours but have finally found a break to get to the keyboard.  I am still trying to at least get something down every weekday, even though it’s not always the deepest thoughts on my mind.

However, while at lunch today I stumbled on this article about how Christians address other followers of the Christ and thought it was worth sharing.  I especially thought this quote included in the article was worthy of consideration.

“There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, Mine!”Abraham Kyuper

I read this a few hours after I had read this quote in a short article by Ann Voskamp, ( yes, I do scan lots of information throughout the day. It’s the glory of conference calls!)

I take to heart the words of Thomas Aquinas, who defined beauty as id quod visum placet — beauty as that which being seen, pleases. I wear the lens of the Word and all the world transfigures into the Beauty of Christ.

Remember he controls it all and when we view it has his it changes our perspective.

What’s Seen

Here’s an interesting thought from Banning Liebscher about what we do how we get stuff done.

So many ways

I have been spending a lot of time in Psalm 46 this week and I have found it fascinating how many ways verse 10 is translated.  Look at some of the translations:

Step out of the traffic! Take a long,
loving look at me, your High God,
    above politics, above everything. MSG

“Calm down,
and learn that I am God! CEV

Stop your fighting—and know that I am God HCSB

That’s enough! Now know that I am God! CEB

Let be and be still, AMP

Let go of your concerns!
Then you will know that I am God. GW

Be in awe and know that I am God. ISV

Be quiet and know that I am God NLV

Desist, and know that I [am] God YLT

Be still, be calm, see, and understand I am the True God The Voice

and my personal favorite today from the Wycliffe translation  ‘Give ye attention, and see ye, that I am God;’

Lots of different verbs all saying the same thing. Stop it already and let God do what he does.

Being Lazy

I mentioned earlier that I would follow up on the Rebekah Lyons podcast thoughts.   So here we go.  During the interview with the guys at Relevant Magazine, she made this statement that sort of stuck with me,. She was talking about finding your calling and figuring out a purpose in your life.  The interviewer asked her what she would say to people who think they have found their calling but are struggling with it become a reality in their life.  This is how she ended the published interview and I thought it was very interesting.  Especially in a week where I am really focusing on being still, and listening to & for God.

We must be always producing, or we must feel like our work is attached to what we do, but God is like ‘Just stop,  We can do this your way or we can do this my way. My way will require some waiting.  It’s going to require some listening.’  There becomes such a dependency on Him moving His hand and far less a dependency on me completing my to-do list.  Because I am kind of like , ‘Lord, maybe I am getting lazy, but I would rather just wait for you to make it painfully clear’.  And when we start to say that in a regular fashion and a regular pattern of prayer, we begin to be blown away at what he really is up to. – Rebekah Lyons

It seems fitting to reshare the same verse from earlier in the week

10 “Stand silent! Know that I am God! Psalm 46:10 (TLB)

Stillness

Yesterday while listening to one of my favorite podcasts, I was introduced to Rebekah Lyons, an author and writer.  She said a few things in the podcast that I will probably write about later this week.  Today, however, I wanted to share something she tweeted earlier this year that I thought was very applicable to the thoughts on my mind around ‘eliminating hurry’ and restoring order in my soul.

Stillness of soul. Hm. That’s something to be still and think about.
