Proclaim Liberty

Its great to be back to the keyboard, buffeting away after a week at the beach in the RAIN!  No oil at all, only rain from the recent Hurricane, aptly named after my eldest.  Anyway, I big shout out to Ray, Joel, and Jeff for filling in during my hiatus.

I am sure most of you are still enjoying the day off work, celebrating our nations 234th birthday.  234 years of freedom!  That’s so great, however, since I remember alot of the bicentennial celebration, 234 sure makes me feel older!

On my drive back I heard the DJ on an Atlanta station was talking about the Liberty Bell in Philly, and mentioned the verse that is etched in the bell.  That seemed to be a good verse to share today as we continue to celebrate.

proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants.  Leviticus 25:10

Get out there today and proclaim liberty, but remember to use it for good.

16Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. 1 Peter 2:16 (New International Version)

Chess Moves

So this week I have learned how to play Chess, I know it is a bit late in life to learn how to play but I have finally gotten around to it. (Thanks to my lovely wife Marti) I never realized what a strategic thinking game it is, I get so wrapped up in one sequence of moves that I do not see a completely different sequence that leads to my ultimate demise. Do you think this is the way Satan was defeated? Satan was so focused on the death of Christ that he failed to see it was leading to his ultimate defeat. PRAISE GOD!

Matthew 28
The Resurrection
1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

8So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

Have a great Friday and live with joy, Christ won the ultimate victory!

High Beams

Jason does such an awesome job of challenging us to try and impact the world around us. It is definitely hard to keep your chin up in today’s world, the economy is hanging on by a thread, people are losing their jobs, their houses, and the Gulf of Mexico is full of oil. Let’s face it the world can be a depressing place. It is full of illness, struggle, and all types of things to wear on our souls.
We need to remind ourselves daily that this world is a temporary home, every struggle we endure, every disease we fight, every weapon the devil uses against us, will not last. The Lord has told us to hope in him, to focus on his grace. Have you ever seen a ray of sunshine shining through the clouds on an overcast day? This is what we should look like to the world. We should carry the hope of salvation with us everyday. We should be a bright beacon of light to the people around us. When we focus on Christ, and we stay strong during the temporary storms of life, the people around us will notice. They will want to know what it is that keeps us calm, even when life is hard.
So today, when the temporary comes at you, focus on the permanent solution that Christ provides. Focus on the grace we have been given, and use the opportunity to let your light shine.
IN HIM WAS LIFE, AND THE LIFE WAS  THE LIGHT OF MEN, AND THE LIGHT SHINES IN THE DARKNESS AND THE DARKNESS DID NOT COMPREHEND IT……JOHN 1 VS 4-5
Have a great day everybody, and turn on your high beams.

Harvesting Tomatoes

Yesterday I went to Jason’s house to check on his garden while he is away at the beach. After scaring Peter Cottontail away, I was overwhelmed with the amount of Red in the plants. The harvest was plentiful but I was all alone! I spent the next half hour harvesting one by one….big tomatoes, medium tomatoes, and small tomatoes from the plants. It reminded me of these verses:

Matthew 9:35-38 (New International Version)

The Workers Are Few
35Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Opportunites abound today, the harvest is ripe for the picking. Get out there and empty the tomato plants, don’t be intimidated by the volume, just harvest them one at a time!

It’s Wedding Season!

With already three weddings under our belts this year, the 2010 Wedding Season is off to a great start! This past weekend in Boothbay Harbor, ME we witnessed the joining of two great friends under a beautiful setting. A perfect couple doing an even more perfect thing!

I love weddings, I absolutely love them. I mean, can you really think of a better way to spend your Saturday?! And it’s not just the party, the phenomenal finger foods or even the family and friends in attendance. I love weddings because each one reminds me of the special day that I shared with my wife almost 4 years ago. It was the day when I first learned the meaning of ever lasting love. To flash back to that day, below is an exerpt from a reading on our special day:

1 Corinthians 13:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Keep up the love and have a great day!
