Depth of Mercy

I stumbled across some older videos last night, and rediscovered a short clip that really delves in to the history of God’s mercy.  It was a great reminder to me about the depth and riches of the mercy of God.

So in view of God’s mercy take a look:

The message of the video, which I have shared before in the past is always a good reminder of our position with our Christ, when we choose him (for he already has chosen us!) – and that position is – forgiven, free and family.

1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. (Romans 12:1-2, The Message)

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I am sure by now you heard about Buffalo Bills wide receiver Steve Johnson’s reaction to dropping the winning touchdown pass on Sunday. If you have not, after dropping the winning touchdown pass, he later tweeted this:

“I PRAISE YOU 24/7!!!!!! AND THIS HOW YOU DO ME!!!!! YOU EXPECT ME TO LEARN FROM THIS??? HOW???!!! ILL NEVER FORGET THIS!! EVER!!! THX THO…

Seriously!

My first reaction was like “What’s up with you man?”, but then I thought about how that’s just like all the rest of us. We are so much like football players with our praise- quick to thank God for the winning touchdowns and to blame him for the loss!

But I don’t think that’s the way we are to go about life – accepting the good, and discounting the bad and ugly and using it as a source of judgment. Take a look over in the book of Job. When really bad things descended on Job, and his wife says “Curse God and die!”, he responds with this:

10 He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” Job 2:10 (New International Version, ©2010)

So today, if you are have having the “Best day ever”, or your storage bin with all of your belongings has been sold off, or you wreck you vehicle, or you get stuck with a dirty job, or whatever does not go your way – remember to accept the trouble from God with praise – just like you would accept the good things!

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12 ESV

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12 ESV

Oh and Happy Birthday to my sister-in-law – Lori!!

Anyway, with the arrival of Santa at Macy’s in New York and the excellent shopping of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the Christmas season has descended upon us. As we look forward 26 days until Christmas, here is a quick reminder to remember what is coming on that day. – no no not Santa!

14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14 (New International Version 1984, ©1984)

Enjoy the day, and shine your light towards Immanuel.

DoorBusters Galore

Well, I missed them- the doorbusters that it is. I decided to stay in the warmth of my covers and listen to the rain instead of getting up and pushing through the crowds to save a few dollars on the doorbusters.

Actually, the more commercials and emails I have received this week about all of this great deals, the more anxious and nervous I was becoming. I have got to get out there I thought. I have got to save all this money. If I don’t, I will miss out. But miss out on what? I was almost convinced that I need to go buy something, but I resisted the call of Black Friday!

So, I have stayed home this morning, to rest and relax. If you are out there shopping, remember to keep focus and let your light shine, as always!

Happy Black Friday!

32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 (New International Version, ©2010)

Give Thanks

It’s the day of thanks!  Make sure you spend a few minutes to look past the turkey, the Detroit Lions and the pumpkin pie to remember the things you are thankful for! And to remember where those blessings come from!

Psalm 100 (New International Version, ©2010)
A psalm. For giving grateful praise.

1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his[a];
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
