Pressing On

It’s another day, and it’s time to get on the grind.  But let’s make sure we are working for something that has some value, like this

12-14 I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.   Philippians 3:12 (MSG)

Upbeat

I remember writing down a comment in my bible a little over twenty years ago about a particular book being upbeat and full of encouragement. So this morning I dug out that book and found the comment.  The comment was about the book of 3 John and it actually says this “Good book to read before exalting someone. Very upbeat book.”  Now, because my mind is so worn, I don’t remember the professor who provided me those works, but I do see this older bit of encourage from John

Do not imitate what is evil but what is good. – 3 John 11

That’s some upbeat we can strive for today.  Find the good and duplicate it!

Comparisons

On of the main points of this blog is to help me change and transform into a something more reflective of the Christ.   On of the other main points is to help  you do the same!   To that point, I read this bit of advice this morning, and I find it extremely helpful on a Friday as a way to help measure that transformation.

Avoid comparison to others – it’s demotivating and inaccurate. Compare today’s you to yesterday’s you instead.

How are you doing compared to that all used up yesterday you?  Make today a day that leaves that guy behind and moves you forward, even just the slightest bit.  And don’t worry about the other guys!

Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed  Hebrews 12:2 MSG

Have It Your Way

I have been thinking and pondering how Jesus attacked problems that were in his path, and trying to cull out from his example what I can learn and apply to things that happen on my daily walk.  Obviously he went off by himself to pray, recharge and think quite often.  And I think that is something that we forget about quite often!

But it’s the way he takes action when its time to take action that is stuck in my mind. He is often quick and decisive and passionate for his cause.  And then there’s his ability to say to the father I’ll did it your way.

But do what you want, and not what I want. Matthew 26:39

Then add on top of that his ability to forcefully and accurately carry out that direction.  That takes a ton of devotion, strength and discipline (and preparation and training!)  That’s what I am thinking about this morning. The example he left to follow the cause with incredible dedication and to fight to the end (and fight to win!) is really impressive.

Something to consider as you approach your day, and it’s battles.

Opportunity for Today

I woke up today realizing that I will never have the opportunity to live May 15, 2013 again.  I need to make this day be something that my future self will look back and thank my past self.  The Creator gave you this day, use it! It’s a gift from Him, bring Him glory in exchange!

12 With all my heart I thank you.

I praise you, Lord God.  Psalm 86:12 (CEV)
