Today is Epiphany, or the end of the 12 days of Christmas.
Before Christmas moved to Dec. 25 during the Fourth Century, Epiphany included the celebration of the birth of Jesus. These days it primarily celebrates the visit of the magi to the baby Jesus, which is something to behold.
Our modern ‘knowledge’ concludes that maybe this visit happened when the baby was older, but who really knows! What we do know is that it happened. And that when it happened, it was awe-inspiring.
“When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”
Matthew 2:10-11 NLT
That’s worth a little Winter celebration, don’t ya think?
