Paradox of Faith

Over the weekend I was reading this about God’s goodness.

22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.  Romans 11:22 (KJV)

It is  interesting to me that way Paul explains a balance of two attributes of God,  a combination of goodness and severity of punishment. I think sometimes we like to focus on one or the other. We see God as either a cruel God or one that only can do what we consider in our eyes as ‘good things’. However, God is both.  He has a side that can dole out punishment. And he has a side that is completely generous. It is for us to assemble a clear picture of God where both of these attributes are combined correctly.  We need to both heed the punishment, but also bask in His goodness.
I think Tozer sums up this notation of the goodness of God quite well in these quote.
“The greatness of God rouses fear within us, but His goodness encourages us not to be afraid of Him. To fear and not be afraid — that is the paradox of faith.”

Daily Buffet and Grill

Take a look at what I found while I was out running around one night this week.

20140319-203155.jpg

Yeah that’s right, some restaurant has stolen the name!! Maybe I need to step up and add a grill element to the blog.  Maybe a hibachi? Any ideas?

Well, I dunno, maybe I should let them take care of the food.  I’ll stick with providing a spiritual buffet, to keep your fit and ready for battle!

28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.  Colossians 1:28 (NIV)

By the way, I didn’t go in!

12 out, 40 to go

Being Present

Okay, it’s time for a little confession. Over the last few workdays I have found myself in situations where I have been on conference calls but entirely focused on my other work. The worst part is sometimes I have been leading the call. This has led to some large silences and awkward pauses. I have been thinking about these moments and realized that although the work I have to do is important, there is an element of disrespect in these situations, even though sometimes my focus on other things could possibly have been justified. Anyway, Itfelt like a great time to remind myself, and you, that all of our interactions with others are extremely valuable. Make sure you are present with the people that you are interacting with today and put their thoughts and needs right up there with your own, maybe even in front?

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. (John 15:12 NIV)

Off Kilter

My morning schedule get thrown off kilter a little bit this morning and I lost my time to think and write.  It’s probably a lack of discipline on my side, more than anything else, but either way, my groove is off today. And that is sort of awkward. Which I guess it OK since today is Awkward Moments Day.  (seriously, I don’t make these things up!)

So speaking of awkward, do you remember this strange story that occurred right after Jesus was taken by the guards in the garden.

50 And they all forsook him[Jesus], and fled.

51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.  Mark 14

What does that have to do with anything beside being well, quite awkward?  Well nothing, except some bible scholars think that since this young man was in burial clothes that maybe he was resurrected from the cemetery nearby the Garden!!!  If that is indeed true that is pretty incredible.

Nothing awkward about that!
