Gifts

So it goes like a lamb after a month of roaring like a lion? Today March ends, 1/4 of the 2014 in the record books. It’s probably a good day to reassess those new years commitments. You know the ones that you were so gungho about until the winter blahs froze all your good intentions! As the spring really settles in this week, let it reinvigorate you with new-found drive.

Speaking of drive, and passionate and all of those skills that you do have.  I found it quite humbling when I stumbled into this little diddy this weekend.

“What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if it were not a gift?” 1 Cor. 4:7

It’s a concept that is quite novel in some ways, yet so obvious in other ways. Everything we have we received from others in some sort of capacity.  And those things that you attempt to claim as your own creations are a gift from the creator Himself. And when you consider all of those things – your stuff, your skills, your talents, your money – as gifts, it changes how you think about and use all of that stuff.

So as you go about doing today, remember the gifts you have been given and live so.

Held Together

As we end the week, I leave you with this simple thought. One that has so much power and one that puts everything in perspective.

He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. (Colossians 1:17 NASB)

Ok, just imagine what that means. And as you do let the problems of the week melt away, in knowing that the one who created it all is still holding all things together.

Enjoy the weekend, you only have 39 more this year!

Noah and the Rainbow

This weekend the Noah movie is coming to a theater near you.  I am excited to see this movie and to see how they portray the story from the book of Genesis.  As you may know there are those who are upset about parts of the movie and it’s telling of the some events.  I can’t say yet as I have not seen the complete movie, but I am certain that any time three bible chapters are used to make a a full length movie some liberties may be taken.  Anyway, it’s a good time to remember the story.  Spent about 10 minutes today and read the whole story of Noah.  Reintroduce yourself to the wickedness of the day, the rain, the wait and the new covenant.  You can read it here.

And if you see the movie, let me know what you think!

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:  I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.  Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,  I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. ” Gen 9:12-15 NIV

I love the fact that the rainbow is about a covenant between God and his people. Remember that wherever you see it, with or without unicorns.

Mighty To Save Day

I am simple minded today, and I am sort of still stuck on my thoughts from yesterday.  So on this Wednesday, that is also “Make Up Your Own Holiday Day”, I deem it  “Might to Save Day”

The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing. NIV Zephaniah 3:17

God is Good

Sometimes we wake up and have a realization that God is good and in control. For me personally this is one of those days.  Not because of anything in particular, but just some sort of realization of that fact.  So my mind immediately has traveled to this Psalm.

5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations Psalm 100:5 (KJV)

and this one

136 O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.  Psalm 136:1  (KJV)
