Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

I am so excited, today is Wave All Your Fingers at Your Neighbor Day!  What a great motivator to make sure we take a positive action towards our neighbors.  (Oh, you might want to remind yourself of the  who that is!)

Speaking of something that motivates, take a look at this. This is my dad.  No, not the little guy with the scarf, but the other one.

And this is my mom. Yes, the one in white. No the tall one!

Yep, that’s my parents out playing in the snow.  My parents, who should we say automatically qualify for certain discounts at certain restaurants. This week 8 inches of snow and cold temperatures came their way.  They could have just waited inside by the nice warm fireplace, however, they  found a way to turn this ‘hardship’ into some good fun and action.  It’s just a snowman you might say (and a clean driveway!)  But to me, and I hope to you as well, it was a great reminder to keep on going, to keep looking for bright spots and to find ways to ‘do’ even when conditions are not perfect.

It was also a great way to spend those few precious days that we are given on this Earth, making memories and impacting others.  So lets bring on the weekend, and the celebration of Man Day on Sunday! It’s the end of the 6th week (46 to go!),  beat the winter doldrums and make it count!

31 The hoary head is a crown of glory; It shall be found in the way of righteousness.  Proverbs 16:31 (ASV)

It’s Signing Day – 2014!!!

YES! It’s that time of year again.  It’s the time with college football fans everywhere place all their hopes and dreams of the next 4 or 5 years in the hands of high school seniors.  That’s right, it’s Signing Day. wOOt wOOt!

I have written about this in the past and those posts are probably a lot better than today’s, so you may want to re read them here and here.

But seriously, this recruiting thing is funny.  Kids waver today, kids sign up, fans get overly excited and the hype machine gets in full swing.  As I mentioned the hope and dreams of the next half decade of your school’s football program hang in the balance today.  That is of course, unless the coach leaves, or  the player leaves, or well a plethora of  something elses.  But still, we have hope!!!!

I am actually pretty excited about today for my team, but I also realize that my hope is steadfastly some place else.

19 This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. 20 Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Train Today, Triumph Tomorrow

I recently received an email with the subject line “Train Today, Triumph Tomorrow”.   The email which happened  to be attempting to persuade me to purchase soccer gear, shoes and apparel was full of nice catchy images like this:

traintoday

and this:

easy

Although it did not inspire me to buy shoes, it did inspire me to capture the images and share them with you. Those two slogans, “Train today to triumph tomorrow” and “Train Hard, Win Easy” can be applied to our daily walks as well.  They call to the need to prepare our physical bodies.  I remind you to prepare your spirit mind.  Each day, progressing a little big more down the path, growing and becoming more and more prepare for whatever spiritual battles lie in front of you.  That doesn’t mean we will be perfect, although my dad always said ‘perfect practice makes perfect’, a line he borrowed from some basketball coach name Lehman, I think.  Anyway, lets do it.  Train today, so we will triumph tomorrow!

12 So brothers and sisters, since God has shown us great mercy, I beg you to offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him. Your offering must be only for God and pleasing to him, which is the spiritual way for you to worship. 2 Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.  Romans 12:1-2 (NCV)

Overcome

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
