Week in Review- CM 48

Wow what a week this one was.   Between the travel, the ridiculous cold, a continued battle with water and ice , snowpocalypse at home and a major milestone in the work project this is one weekend I am glad to see arrive! But really isn’t that what life is about?

Any way, it’s the end of January.  1/12 of 2014 behind us and today the fifth marble is ready to be spent. What is great is that we still have  most of the year to continue to do.

But since it is the end of the first month, it seems a good time to remind ourselves of the Daily Buffet verse of the year.

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22-25 (NIV)

Spent this marble well, and lets keep on doing what we know to do.

One Single Hour

Geesh, my mornings this week have been complete chaos and my writing time has evaporated.  This has been one of those weeks that heads me back to these words.

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?  Matthew 6:25-34 (NIV)

These words  always remind me that no matter what junk is going on around you, the Creator of the world is pretty much in control of this, and that sure takes away the pressure of having to make it go your way!

Did Someone Say Snow?

Wow, what a day yesterday! Snow in the South! All of that crazy stuff is enough to make you want to be a ‘prepper’. And I am not talking the bread and milk kind, more if the ‘I have my own stocked fortress’ kind!

Fortunately for me I only watched the happenings from a more saner place via texts, Facebook, and of course Twitter. For those readers in the new buckle of the Bible Belt- be safe today!

I was trying to think of a great verse to share for this type of occasion and what immediately came to mind were these simple words.

Do to others as you would have them do to you. (Luke 6:31 NIV)

Of course they are words we should live by every day. Help out those around you today and impact for good.

Defined By Action

So sorry that the Monday post did not occur yesterday. My day started extra early and just did not slow down until the late evening. I will make up that with a bonus sometime in the week. (I know, you can’t wait right?)

Anyway, speaking of ‘do’, look at this little sound bite from a Founding Father

Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you. -Thomas Jefferson

This reminds so much of the words of someone else who was critical to shaping our daily lives

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” -Jesus (John 13:35 NIV)

Let your actions define you. The question is, what will the definition be?

Great work

These Fridays are just rolling around with what seems to be ridiculous speed.  Three weekends are past and this ends the 4 week.  7 segments of seven remain for the year. Including today 49 Friday’s are left in this container we call a year.

This week I was listening to Andy Stanley’s new year new you 2014 message.  This was his message to encourage people to continue their transformations in 2014.  during that talk he mention the story on Nehemiah, who if you don’t recall traveled to a destroyed Jerusalem to restore his people.  When he arrived he began to fervently rebuild the city’s wall.  This was his focus.  His task.  His mission.  He didn’t waver, he didn’t allow others to sidetrack him.  In a humorous response, when asked to meet with some local dignitaries he responded multiple times with these words

“I’m doing a great work; I can’t come down.” Nehemiah 6:3

As we end this week and take out another marble, remember those words.  You are doing a great work.  Stay focused on your tasks.  Keep going.  Don’t get sidetracked, and don’t allow things that are not moving your along to become your focus.  And maybe, just maybe we should learn this second lesson from Nehemiah.  He leaned on the Creator.

I prayed, “Give me strength.” Nehemiah 6:9
