10-10

I looked at the date this morning and got all excited, it’s the tenth day of the tenth month of the thirteenth year.  That’s not right.  So I wondered what I actually wrote on this day back in 2010, when it was all tens across the board.  Take a look back here.  It’s seems pretty appropriate to revisit on this version of Dime ( and 3 pennies) Day.

Yep, I missed the mark then as well.  So here is something to consider on this date that ever so slightly missed the mark of something really neat.  Or maybe I just fell short of the perfection!

9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.   2 Corinthians 12:9  (NIV)

Also, while we are speaking about missing.  I am so sorry about the  missing post this week.  My mornings were full of things that keep me away from a place to write.

Starting small

Here is a little saying to get your week started off right.

But you must resist the devil and stay strong in your faith. You know that all over the world the Lord’s followers are suffering just as you are. (1 Peter 5:9 CEVUK00)

Shutdown!

The government shutdown has pushed me over the edge of losing faith in our elected officials.  I am sure lots of you are saying “really it took you that long?”  I find the inability to find rational ways to run the business of government pretty unreasonable.  Maybe it’s my upbringing!

Anyway,  today I wanted to urge you to keep positive despite that mess up there.  I suppose  many of you may not even realize that the government is shutdown!  But in the meantime, find ways to help those affected, like this article suggests, and as always keep finding ways to encourage your officials to ‘get r dun’.

And more importantly,  remember that, as followers of the Christ, we place our faith in something else. Something that even the government can’t shutdown!  It’s keeps going every day.

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)

Let that promise govern your life as you change the world for him today.

Children

I absolutely love this tweet yesterday from Andy Stanley.

What a great way to look at your children. That statement is so full of grace and mercy and love. It fully forgives all the frustration and stupidity that your children bring into your life. It constantly creates a fresh start. It’s forward thinking. It’s absolutely positive. And most of all it’s the way our Heavenly Father views us!

Psalm 103:11-13 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west,so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children,so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;

In case you can’t see the tweet above here it is:

When I look at my children I never think about their past. Only their potential.

Doing What You Want

Sometimes when I find I really want to do things for myself and not for others, I think about this verse

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 NKJV)

Think about that. For some reason I think Jesus may have wanted to be a little selfish on that day. I am sure glad he choose not to be. Let’s follow that example and led love lead us to others today.
