Great words

Can you think of better words than these to start your day?

I showed you in all things that you should work as I did and help the weak. I taught you to remember the words Jesus said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” (Acts 20:35 NCV)

Shine

I walked outside last night at dusk. I am always impressed by how brightly the first stars of the night time shine. That has me thinking about stars this morning. And thus this verse.

Then you will be innocent and without any wrong. You will be God’s children without fault. But you are living with crooked and mean people all around you, among whom you shine like stars in the dark world. (Philippians 2:15 NCV)

Mole Day

Man today is Mole day and I didn’t make the time to post this morning.

Any way I hope you made it a good one and took advantage of knowing that Avogadro’s number is celebrated the whole day long! ( when actually from 6:02 to 6:02).

And since we are talking about large numbers, what about this?

21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, when someone won’t stop doing wrong to me, how many times must I forgive them? Seven times?”

22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, you must forgive them more than seven times. You must continue to forgive them even if they do wrong to you seventy-seven times.

Prepared

This weekend I was teaching the middle schoolers about the importance of learning and being prepared.  One of the things I shared with them was this verse from Matthew

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”  Matthew 4:4

I think this is so impressive because the Christ was able to refute the temptation of the Satan by preparing his mind with an understanding of the truths of scripture.  He was ready with an answer and knew where he stood on this very tempting issue, even before the temptation arose.

There’s a lot to be learned there about preparing the mind and the heart and having the correct focus.

Today think about the things we are tempted by.  Would it be of benefit to study and think about the whole issue and begin to really solidify your thinking before the next temptation rolls around?

Peacemakers

During the sermon Sunday the preacher referenced a passage in the book of James. While I was there my eyes wondered over to this sentence which for some reason stuck out.

18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

I am not even exactly sure what it means. But I am certain that it is not saying that it ends good for those that unnecessarily turn up strife and trouble. I am also pretty sure it doesn’t mean that people who never had any sort of conflict and let people tell them what do you reap the harvest. But it does seem to be more of a promise to those who find ways to work with others and bring stability, gentleness and solidness to situations. For those people the harvest is there.

Spend a moment thinking about whether you sow in peace or you sow in some other mindset.
