Compelled

It’s Monday, the winter weather has set in and today maybe just one of those days that you wonder why you are heading out to do whatever it is you do.

Well, maybe this is some good motivation from 2 Corinthians.

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

Be compelled to action today by the love of Christ!

Begin the Work

It’s Friday!, “yeeeaa” (said like that guy on the Sonic commercial when he states that his first hat blew his mind)

Here’s is some motivation to get up and hit the grind ( this applies to everyday, not just Friday)

…. Now begin the work, and the Lord be with you.” …. Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God. Begin to build….  (1 Chronicles 22:16-19 NIV)

Step Down

Sometimes I think that I think it’s all about me.  And that frustrates me to no end.   As much as I like myself, I find that when it’s all about me, it usually ends up in the ditch.  So I  have really been thinking about the “your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus”  stuff from Philippians, and man, when you spend some time in that chapter, it really is quite condemning and positively motivating at the same time.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:3-4 New International Version (NIV)

I tell Alex all the time that high school is the time in most teenagers lives where kids have to tear down others to build themselves up, and of course I challenge him to reverse that trend. Today, I challenge you as well. Step down and life others up. Spend some time today thinking how you value yourself compared to others, and see what you can do to make others better by lowering yourself.

Dozen Day

oh 12!  What a fascinating number.  There’s the 12 days of Christmas, the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 innings in a baseball game. ( extra innings of course!)  But really 12 is a number that is used a lot to show divine authority,  governing perfection, and completeness.  It is found as a multiple in all that has to do with rule – 60 minutes, 24 hours, 360 degrees, 12 donuts.

Some think today could be an Apocalyptic day with all of these twelves around.  Just imagine the hysteria on 12/12/12 1212!  Wow, what sort of day must that have been! And it seems to have turned out ok!    But I did want you to know, if this is the end, I will not be posting tomorrow – especially not if there are Zombies around!  You could be reading the last post ever.  ( that is probably more likely next Friday, but more about that then!)

So let celebrate Dozen Day with some donuts from Krispy Kreme and a look at the life of a Christian from Romans 12

12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. Romans 12:12 New Living Translation (NLT)

Aint Nothing But a Thang

As I was heading into work this morning I approached my arch nemesis that traffic signal and noticed it was green.  With glee I started to accelerate towards the intersection thinking to myself, finally I will not have to wait on this corner!  My excitement quickly turned a wave of frustration and a slap on the steering wheel as the light immediately turned to yellow.

“Now I will have to sit through the entire light”, I thought, as steam rose from my ears!

In the silence of my truck cabin I thought, why am I like this, and wondered what sort of blessing I could turn this into. Immediately this verse popped into my head

10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”  Psalm 46:10 New International Version (NIV)

I thought about how busy this season is and how we forget  to stop and remember the One who is really is in control of all of this mess.

The point was further emphasis to me as I continued my commute.  I encountered two semis who decided to imitate turtles drag racing side by side and the driver who sits in your blind  spot while you do your best to not run over the car in front of you, and slows as the car in front of you slows!  And then as I entered the interstate I experience that great experience when the only two cars anywhere  on a 4 lane road are the one directly in front of you and the one directly beside you, both traveling at a rate of speed well under the speed limit!

Each time I thought back to that verse, and counted them as blessings.

Of course all of this deep meditation was disrupted and just about destroyed when I pulled up behind the pickup with the words “Aint nothing but a Thang” in huge letters on its tailgate!  🙂

So, As you go through the rest of the holidays, take advantage of those times of slowing to be still and remember the Creator.  They aint nothing but a thang!
