Constrained

One of the minor reasons I started writing this blog 4 years ago was to force myself to attempt o become a better writer, and to be better able to express my self in writing.  I will let all of you judge the improvement!

I do realize however, that some people are just blessed with the ability to use simple words to capture great thoughts.  I was reminded of that last weekend when I was thinking about the lyrics to the classic hymn ‘Come Thou Fount’.  This one line from that great poem is I think often overlooked when the song is sung, but full of immense emotion and meaning

oh to grace how great a debtor, Daily I’m constrained to be.

I am always taken aback by this line and how wonderful a blessing the grace we have been freely given is and by how much of a debt we owe that sale grace!

It’s been freely given, and so you are free to give it!

In the Lamb We Trust

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God” (Psalm 20:7, NIV).

As we continue to move forward post election and continue to impact those we come in contact with, I wanted to remind you this morning of this great Psalm.  My hope is that it reminds you to examine where your trust is and focus not on the stuff we have, nor the people who lead, and not even your own strength.

Trust in the meek and lowly one who bore it all for you.

Long live the Lamb!!!

The Aftermath

Phew, that was a close one last night, and today half of you are excited and half of you are depressed.  I thought it might be good to take a look at how Paul dealt with things, whether good or bad.  When he wrote to the church in Phillipa he described a certain amount of contentment, of self-sufficiency, and of an ability to “make do” in any situation.

11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:11-13 New International Version (NIV)

So, as a follower of the Christ, you already have everything you need.  If you are excited or depressed about the outcome of the election, it doesn’t really matter.  The Christ has provided all we need to be successful and bring glory to God over the next four years- no matter what may come!

VOTE!

Well, the deed is done as I hit the polling place early this morning.  You probably do know today is a pretty big day in the course of the U.S of A.  I think the following verses are proper, fitting, and as English teachers say ‘apropos’ to the events of the day.

13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Romans 13:1 New International Version (NIV)

and maybe this one as well.

God has now revealed to us his mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill his own good pleasure. And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth.” Ephesians 1:9-10 NLT

Let the best man win, er, the man with most votes win, but remember, that when all the campaigning is complete,  Christos is where you should cast your vote.

Know My Anxious Thoughts

Sometimes a good Monday can only be started with a little bit of David’s writings from the Psalms.  This part is a great prayer to get the week started off on the right foot.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
