Jump In

Well Summer is in full swing.  Hopefully you have able to fun some time by the water to stay cool and relaxed.  And when you get there, don’t just sit on the edge – jump in!  Go all the way!  Get wet.

Do it to remind you about how you should live life.  Not sitting on the edge, not with just a toe in poking in, but all the way in, covered with it, immersed and surrounded!

Lets live that way today!

23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,  Colossians 3:23 New International Version (NIV)

The Lord God is my strength. He makes me like a deer that does not stumble so I can walk on the steep mountains.  Habakkuk 3:19 NCV

Use Today

Oh today,  today is here, and today will be full of well todayness.

Isn’t that great!

We can attack it and pour out our cup on others around us with no worries about tomorrow. Tomorrow, when it gets here, will offer us  new opportunities and a another great chance to pour out our cup.

but Today!  It’s here.

Lets use it, and not be anxious and worry about what may come.

33 Seek first God’s kingdom and what God wants. Then all your other needs will be met as well. 34So don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own worries. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:33-34New Century Version (NCV)

Run to Win

Run to Win!It’s National Running Day!  How exciting is that!  I pretty pumped about it, especially since it was last year about this time that I had to stop running because I could barely walk up and down steps with my knee issues.  Yesterday I ran 4 miles in 32:00.  It’s amazing what specialized treatment, patience and training can do for you physical body.

If you are a runner, you can head over to the National Running Day site and get yourself a personalized badge for Facebook, or wherever, like this one to the left.

You all know that one of my favorite verses, and the verse the provided the name for this blog is about running.

Know ye not that they that run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? Even so run; that ye may attain.

25 And every man that striveth in the games exerciseth self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 I therefore so run, as not uncertainly; so fight I, as not beating the air:

27 but I buffet my body, and bring it into bondage: lest by any means, after that I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected.  1 Corinthians 9:24-27  ASV

said another way and is a little easier to read these days

24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27New Living Translation (NLT)

And the great thing about this verse is that he is really talking about our spiritual lives.  Just like a runner training for a race will exercise discipline and work their physical body, we must to the same as we prepare and train for the spiritual races that we run.

Let’s make sure we run to win!  Train your body and your spirit each day and stay focused on the prize.

Building

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV

What else is there to say to that!  This looks like a great plan and one that everyone wants to follow.  But why does it seem that it is so much easier to tear down than to build up?

Today – watch your actions – ask yourself – are you tearing down others, or are you building up?  Then decide which worked better, and see how you can let the Spirit transform those parts of you into some that lifts others on your shoulders!

Driving Lessons

My oldest heads off to drivers education class this week.  And what a relief that is.  Teaching a opinionated young man to drive a speeding bullet is much more stressful than I ever imagined.  It’s pretty nice to be able to outsource a little bit of the finer details of this education to someone who must have nerves of steel! Seriously, just imagine if your job was to drive around in a  compact car with first time drivers all day long!

Of course, what I really dread about this, is that when he comes home with all this new knowledge in hand, I have a strong feeling that my driving will be uses as a place for him to critic and test the value of what he has learned.  I would love to say “do as I say, but not as I do boy!”  But for some reason, I don’t think that will fly… Just like it doesn’t in other parts of life.

6 Always remember these commands I give you today.7 Teach them to your children, and talk about them when you sit at home and walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 New Century Version (NCV)

Yep, we are to remember, teach and talk about these commands as often as well can.  And of course, the best way to make that happen is to make sure you are living it as well.

Watch your speed, and make sure your example is one that others should follow.
