Comments Please

Well, I discovered yesterday that my comment sub system on this blog may not have worked.  I was wondering why no one ever posted anything.  I assumed it was either because no one really reads any of this, or you stop reading before you get to my question at the end. Either way, it’s working now!  So prove my assumptions incorrect and comment away.

Oh, I also have received a suggestion to put a comment button in the email distribution that many of your receive ( you can subscribe yourself on the right hand side of the site ( www.butcherville.com/dailybuffet).  I did not do that yet, but I am looking for a way to add that to the email.  Maybe that will help with some more active comments.

Can you see I am dying for attention today!!

Seriously, I do receive a lot of feedback from you, the reader via email, and I always appreciate the comments and the encouragement.  It “keeps me singing as I go“.

Well, on today’s thought, which by the way this is going appears quite elusive.  It is Friday once again, and of course Friday usually means a simple thought, plus my friend Mr Jones has me schedule for an 8am meeting which will keep me busy for most of the morning.

So, back to the idea of comments and providing feedback.  Wouldn’t it be great if the creator of the world would stop by the blog you call your life and leave a comment every so often.  Something that would confirm and correct.  Something that would help you keep going in the right direction.

Well, I think he may have.  Well I know he has provided so much all ready.  But I think he has provided a feedback mechanism.  Look at these verses from James

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

He tells us to listen and look with intent and the answers are there.  Hm.. the feedback is right in front of us, is it up to us to make sure our comment section is working?

I dunno?  What do you think about this?

84 Fears?

Once again I am late in the day for my post, so if you have been used to drinking your morning coffee with my thoughts, I apologize. I think I should be back on my morning schedule.

Well, while I was wasting time working this morning, searching for inspiration and motivation, I stumbled into these words:

The most often repeated command in the Bible: “Do not fear!” Our God is in control! Hallelujah!

Wow, that’s pretty interesting, so I decided to do some quick research. I am not sure that for sure its the more often repeated command, but I did find out that there are 84 occurrences of the command “Do not fear!” or “Stop being afraid!” starting with

1 After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision:
“Do not be afraid, Abram.
I am your shield,
your very great reward.” Gen 15:1 NIV

I am not sure about you, but I find this pretty invigorating and comforting. The creator of the world tell us via his communication with others on many occurrences that we should not be afraid as we go through life. That’s a cool thought, especially since we use that as a reason to not do so many times. And it appears it is something that I am writing about quite frequently. Or at least it seems that I have been writing a lot about lately.

I wonder what I seem to fear, and even more I wonder why I would – when I have a pretty good dude on my side. ( or I guess I am on his side!)

How about you?

Slow Start

I ran down to get a beverage this morning and had a quick conversation with the beverage lady.  After exchanging pleasantries I mentioned that I have been off to a slow start today ( as you can tell my the tardiness of this post), her response was “well at least its a start!”

I guess that’s correct, at least it’s a start – but I am not so sure.  In my line of work there is a concept called recursive programming, and I love it.  It’s essentially having something call itself to continue doing the same thing multiple times.  It’s a pretty cyclical thing, and can be very very confusing and perplexing if not used correctly.  For those of you who don’t understand this concept, think Groundhog Day.

Well, that’s sort of how I feel this morning, like I am in a recursive loop.  Same issues, same problems, same struggles, same same same.  Argh.

Even this morning my good friend Wade and I were talking about generators and my recent reoccuring power outages.  When I said I still needed to get one of those generators, his reply was

you said that 4 months ago

As a matter of fact, if you notice that link, that last time I spoke about Wade, was the week after Labor Day, last year.  ARGH, I feel like I am deep inside a recursive loop and it is really really getting me down.
Do you ever feel that way, like you can’t get out? It’s been a personally frustrating morning as I see these glimpses of sameness plastered all around me, when my spirit craves for newness, and for re-creation.

So today, here is a verse that I have been spending some time considering today.

12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Psalm 51:12 New International Version (NIV)

I think that focusing on the joy that only come from one place should maybe help with some of this cyclical madness – What do you think?

I’ve Got No Power

Well after the driest August ever we just got the most rain in a 24 Hour period ever in Chattanooga and I have no electrical power. Plus my laptop has failed to start this morning. Arrgh!

So just a simple verse today to remind me where I can get my power back.

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Phil 4:13

Wear Your Colors

Today is College Colors Day.  It’s obvious that this day is really about the start of college football this weekend. So I hope you have clothed yourself with the colors of your favorite college.

But as I wrote about last football season when the old Mountaineers had some new fancy suits to wear, lets make sure you are clothed with something else today as well.

You see the whole idea of this day is to get you to identify yourself with your team – whose colors are you wearing?  Who do you support?  It’s a fun day.  But look at this, these words from the Christ.

15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Matthew 7:15-20 New International Version (NIV)

He says – “hey y’all,  you can tell who is on my team by what they do – how they act, by what legacy they leave”. And then later he says – “well boys, it’s like this, they will know you are my team because you love other people”.

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 New International Version (NIV)

So put on the old Gold and Blue, the Purple and Gold, the Orange, the Crimson, the Red and Black, and also put on the fruit of the spirit and the colors of the Christ!

Let us be known by our fruit!
