Roots

Wow, those were some monster storms last night.  As we were eating dinner I was watching my neighbors trees.  These trees are ‘view killers’.   In the summer they almost completely eliminate the view I have off my back porch, as you can see in the picture.  The weatherman was execting 60 MPH winds, so I began to hold out hope that this would be the night that some of those trees come down in a crashing roar!

As you can see in the picture these particular trees have developed quite a resistance to wind.  At one time last night, when I did not have my camera in hand, I thought they were going to lay down the wind was blowing so hard against them.  The winds howled all night, and I believe that all across town trees toppled over.  But in my backyard, there they stand this morning – like statues – calling out as a constant reminder of the stability and resistance.  A reminder of the depth of their roots and their ability to handle the onslaught of the wind.  A reminder of the way we should be able to live our lives as we battle each day against the forces that toil against us.

Trustworthy Sayings

Well sometings on a Monday all you need is something simple and concrete to get you going and back into the swing of things.  And frankly(I love saying that because CEO of my company used to say this all the time, during his public addresses), thats all I have the brain to deliver today.  I spent a little time with Paul and Titus this weekend and these rules for good living seemed apropos to share this morning.

3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. March 32nd

It seems March is going out like a lion in New England with over 8 inches of snow to keep the fools away!  But hey, its April, we all know what those April showers bring – Pilgrims.  (May Flowers – get it har har).

So, now on to a exergisis about fools in the bible. No no, surprisingly I have not spent much creativity on something cute for April Fool’s Day, and so I don’t have a great April Fool’s verse or thought. But I did find a thoughts on foolishness that could keep you going.

 1 The fool says in his heart,
   “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
   there is no one who does good. (Psalm 14:1, New International Version, ©2011)

and

25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. (1 Corinthians 1:25, New International Version, ©2011)

Man, I would hate to be the victim of one of God’s April Fool’s jokes!
But seriously on this day we play the fool, remember that the creator did play a little joke on the Devil a little further in April – when he let the evil forces of the world think they could kill his son. – only to have his rise again three days later. Who’s the joke on now?
