Happy Leap Day

Wow, This is definitely one day I have not blogged about. Since this blog started in 2009, it was not around the last time this crazy mathematical correcting day came around.  So let me say it

Happy Leap Day!

 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him. Psalm 28:7 New International Version (NIV)

I still remember 3 leaps days back when my youngest was arriving.  I so wanted him to be born on February 29.  I mean instead of almost becoming a teenager, he would only be celebrating his third birthday today!  Alas, his mother had other plans.

So what does it mean?

I dunno, I guess it means you get one extra day to find a way to help others and bring glory to your creator this year.  You also get one extra day to focus on your one word for the year, and you get one last-ditch day in February to complete any monthly goals you had for yourself!  Bonus!  Thank you Julius Caesar!

So today I will be glad to have the extra day and I try to make it count.

12 Teach us to number our days,    that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Ps 90:12 NIV

et tu?

National Pancake Day

Hey, it’s  National Pancake Day! and that means FREE pancakes at IHOP.   It seems just like yesterday that I was writing about Pancake Day 2011.  That sure what a pretty creative post about pancakes and giving.

Today, however, is a different story, as my early morning departure for Atlanta has fizzled my creativity a little bit.  But, thinking of creativity, check out this video that was sitting on my Flipboard last evening.  It was sort of odd, just this , no words:

To Do List from Yaniv Fridman on Vimeo.

That’s pretty cool. It’s sort of a challenge to stretch yourself.  Enjoy the day.

24 This is the day the LORD has made.
Let us rejoice and be happy today! Psalm 118:24 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

Oh, and just in case you thought it was the last day of February!!! It’s Not!

Nice to Me

You know the way Pinterest is spilling over into Facebook and people are constantly posting fancy quote and sayings they like that have been all “arted” up and make attractive?   Well. recently I saw this quote posted in my feed.

“I don’t care if you’re black, white, straight, bisexual, gay, lesbian, short, tall, fat, skinny, rich or poor. If you’re nice to me, I’ll be nice to you. Simple as that.”
Eminem

Seems good enough.  But I have one question — what if they are not nice to you?  Then what are you going to do? Huh, Huh?? Yeah, then what are you going to do??( said in my best middle schooler voice)

But I say to you, love your enemies and bless the one who curses you, and do what is beautiful to the one who hates you, and pray over those who take you by force and persecute you.  Matthew 5:44 Aramaic Bible in Plain English (©2010)

and sometimes a trip back to the King James is good:

44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Maybe the quote that we post all over Facebook should be something more like this

I don’t care if you’re black, white, straight, bisexual, gay, lesbian, short, tall, fat, skinny, rich or poor or if you hate me, or use me.  I’ll be nice to you. Simple as that.

Plant the Good Seed

With the 78 degree weather yesterday, my mind is turning towards one thing – planting!  Yes, I can’t believe it’s almost time to start getting those early plants in the ground so that I can reap the harvest later this summer.

And that also got me thinking about the other seeds that I am planting right now.  I am really curious what I will reap in my spiritual, work, and physical life in the summer(and beyond) from the seeds I am planting right now.  I think we all have reap the benefits of good seeds planted, and the penalty of bad seeds when they bloomed in full force.

Let’s go through today planting the right seeds.

7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.  Galatians 6:7-10 NIV

A Different View

Over the weekend, I was sitting in a place in the auditorium where I was looking at the backside of a screen that was set up for the other half of the crowd. So when I looked at this projection, all the words were backwards. I attempted to challenge myself to only read them from that screen – to see if I could keep up, reading in a new way. Let me say the after a few minutes, my head literally started to hurt as my brain worked against everything it has learned for 40 years.

But that was good.

And so it is for us.

It’s through that challenge we are transformed and find growth.

I hope you find even the smallest way to challenge yourself to get out of your ǝuoz ʇɹoɟɯoɔ today.

2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2 NIV
