Break It Down

Yesterday I started a fairly painful treatment on my knees called A-STYM therapy. When I say painful, I man ‘ouchie wawa’ painful. However this pain is supposed to bring about healing. The whole idea of the treatment is to break down the scar tissue and to create trauma for the muscles and tendons. This process will restart the healing process and eventually things should be better. YEAH!  So the painful process of breaking down begins to create healing.

So it is with our spirits as well. When we are haughty and self seeking and go about it on our own, bad things may happen. But the Creator says he likes a broken spirit.

My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart
you, God, will not despise. (Psalm 51:17 NIV)

Because then he can lift us up. So today embrace your brokenness and let God be the healer!  Then you like my patella tendon, can be on your way to better days!

This is the Day

Yesterday in our Sunday morning worship we sang Zoe Group’s A New Anointing, which Andrew has been singing as he has transversed the house since that time.  He created such an ear worm that all of us (minus the sleeping teenager) sung this song during the morning while preparing for the day.  The part of the song he seems stuck on was this verse:

Let Your glory fill the earth!

As we declare
This is the day, this is the day
This is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice, I will rejoice
I will rejoice and be glad in it
This is the day, this is the day
This is the day that the Lord has made

That’s a pretty good way to get started, even on a rainy cool Monday morning.  Today, remember this is the day the Lord has made, and he made it for you.  It’s another empty canvas waiting for you to paint!  Paint something that will bring him glory!

24 This is the day which the LORD has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24New American Standard Bible (NASB)

A Riddle About Time

Well, let me first apologize for no email yesterday.  There was a post, but as you can see from the post, I was in an awkward spot when I was composing that one, plus I was posting later in the day.  As things were turn out  I was unable to change the email delivery time remotely.  But I am connected again today.

And today my time started on the wrong side of the day, or I should say my clock thought it was the evening when I needed it to it to think it was the morning – all of that riddle to say I am rushing just a bit this morning, as I head off for a remarkable day of discussing the merits of process modeling.

Anyway, I think if you subscribe by email you will get a double dose today, so make sure you check out both.  And if on this ides of June you are rushing around as I am take a moment and consider this verse.

19 When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94:19 New International Version (NIV)

Hidden Treasures

Last night I was scrambling to finish up all the items on my “spousal” classroom readiness checklist. ( for all of you who are not the spouse of a teacher, this is all the items that you are blessed with the chance to help prepare for the new school year)  I convinced Amy to head out to Lowes with me to pick out exactly what she wanted me to put as a veneer on the back of her new school desk.

Big Mistake.

Don’t you love how your wives “save” you money? So we left with a buggy full, but nothing that was on our list!   But seriously, it was so fun to watch how excited she was getting as she uncovered storage options, area rugs, and little people chairs for her classroom.  Her excitement about “how cute” it was going to make her room turned what was to be a very business like trip to the hardware store into a great memory.  Maybe I need to take her to Lowes with me more often.  It definitely makes it more fun then the normal drudgery.

And of course, I can tied anything to our daily life.  I am already dreading the trip to Lowes(work) that I have to make today – hours of business like discussions.  What we have to be careful to keep in check in walking right past the simple items that make the whole day worthwhile.  They are there.  So don’t be so focused so much on the plain old brown piece of paneling, that you walk right by the watermelon umbrella. (kid sized of course!)

24 This is the day the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it. Ps 118:24

Hangdog Skulking

Originally published on 8/14/2009

There are some passages that are best still in the “original”  KJV.  Here is one of them (can you read this without singing)

King James Version (KJV)

Psalm 25

1Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.

2O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.

3Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.

However, sometimes you can’t top the Message for getting the “message” across:

The Message (MSG)

Psalm 25

A David Psalm

1-2 My head is high, God, held high; I’m looking to you, God;
No hangdog skulking for me.

3 I’ve thrown in my lot with you;
You won’t embarrass me, will you?
Or let my enemies get the best of me?

Don’t embarrass any of us
Who went out on a limb for you.
It’s the traitors who should be humiliated.

So, today, no hangdog skulking.  Lift your eyes up to God and be lifted up yourself.  He is where your strength comes from.

Be Strong today, because God is Strong!
