Dead Batteries

I am no where near becoming a mechanic.  I just want to get in the car, crank the ignition and go.  I really don’t even care for driving that much.  So you can imagine what it was like this morning when Amy’s car was making that “click, click, click”.  You know it, the sound that is worse then finger nails on a chalkboard.  A battery that is not strong enough to start up the good old combustion engine.  (insert deep and long sigh here).

But aha, no problem right – just pull out the jumpers and go to town. No. Still nothing.  So today I get the pleasure of trying to figure out how to get that vehicle out of my garage and to a garage where it can someone who actually understands how those things work can take my wallet out of my pocket, examine it and charge me accordingly!  It’s this stuff in life that can lead you to frustration.

However, I choose to take a different take this morning.  First , I am blessed enough to have 2 vehicles, and I am blessed enough to have a job where I can work from home. And if I am honest with myself, I am blessed to have the means to be able to fix that vehicle.  Sometimes, we just need to stop and count the blessings, and ignore the little issues, that we want to turn into huge issues.

So the car sits in the garage, I am working from home and Amy probably ended up just a few minutes late for school.  Really no so bad.

Take a look at the frustrations of your day and evaluate them in an honest manner. See if you can find some blessing in them.

1 Praise the LORD, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

2 Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits-

3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,

4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,

5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:1-5 (New International Version)

What a Great Day

What a great day.  Today is my best friend’s birthday, and well that make me happy. So, I will pull out a sappy verse today to express my love for her, which I can’t explain in words:

18 There are three things that amaze me—
no, four things that I don’t understand:
19 how an eagle glides through the sky,
how a snake slithers on a rock,
how a ship navigates the ocean,
how a man loves a woman. Proverbs 30:18-19 (New Living Translation)

(Does that even make sense?  )

Anyway, I will be rejoicing today, thankful for the gift of a great companion.  But with all the great gifts with which we have been blessed, I am certain you can find a reason to make this a great day as well.  If not, here is one:

Ps 106:1 Praise the Lord!
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!

Enjoy the day, and now you have a reason to eat cake!

Holiday Edition: Happy Labor Day

Hey all, enjoy your day off work.  Find some time to rest and enjoy some time with your family.  That’s what I am doing so the thoughts are short today.

Get out there and celebrate work by being lazy today, but be ready to hit it again tomorrow!

5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
my hope comes from him.

6 He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.Ps 62:5-6

18 Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him—for this is his lot. 19 Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work—this is a gift of God. 20 He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart. Ecc 5:18-20

God is good.

Joyful Noises

I have decided to take a new take with waking up my teenager – singing.  Yes there’s something about a song in the morning.  Its not as incredible as Amy singing “Good Morning, Good Morning,its time to start the day”.  Which is usually akin to a song bird.  No, for my eldest it was more of a rendition that would quickly get 3 X’s on America’s Got Talent.  There’s nothing like a verse of “This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made, the the Lord had made” coming from your father at 6:30 to get your stumbling out of bed.

Anyway, that turned into a musical morning today, (and a reduction in the grouchy voices!)  From Andrew playing some new chords on his guitar to Alex hopping from the piano to his keyboard as he maneuvered through the house there was song all across the home today.

Music is a mood changer, so how about all of using a little praise today to keep your mind focus and attune to the way your should hit the day.

1Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.

2Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

3Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

5For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. (Psalm 100:1-5, King James Version)

Be Glad!

Friday the 13th

Oh yes, with a name like Jason, you know I have to like Friday the 13th.  In the past when I was helping with the Inner City children, they would all invariably pull back and yell every time I would tell them my name was Jason.  And these were small children – 6, 7 8 year olds.

So Friday the 13th seems like a perfect day for a person with my name to get out and have some fun. But actually, I am not superstitious at all.  The fact is, to me Friday the 13th really has no special value.  Its another great day that we have been blessed with to serve and to love.  I walk under ladders, I used to own a black cat, I never knock on wood, nor toss salt over my shoulder.

You may be asking “How can you survive?”  Its all because of  trust.

6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed;
he answers him from his holy heaven
with the saving power of his right hand.

7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

8 They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm. Psalm 20:6-8 (New International Version)

So even if today the mirror breaks while a black cat screeches in front of me and I see a dude in a hockey mask with a chain saw, I’ll still not fear. When your trust is in the Lord and Savior these other things – plus the normal “stresses” of life – tend to fade into the back ground and not be as big of fears as maybe they once where.

So get out there and enjoy Friday the 13th.  I may even open my umbrella inside!
