Come to Us

It is interesting to me how some Christmas seasons some songs take on more meaning than others.  I find myself having a new favorite Christmas song each December. Sometimes it even changes as the month goes on.  For instance, this year I have sort of kicked Jingle Bell Rock complete to the curb ( it reminds me of Home Alone) and have found songs about His coming on the front of my mind.  I can’t get enough of Come O Come Emmanuel, no matter the version.  And like that is this song from Young Oceans – Come to Us O Lord.

Our Shepherd King; please come and dwell with us
To fields of grace; lead on

And we will stand,
Securely in the strength of the Lord
Every heart will surely come and adore
The Great I Am

This song has a nice song and although not traditionally a Christmas song, it’s definitely well versed in the coming on the Lord and our dependence on his coming!

Prince of Peace, Emmanuel
Lord draw us close, unto Thyself
King of kings, God’s chosen One
We need You now; to Thee we run

Very Nice! Let us run his direction!

For at just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. 1 Tim 6:15 NLT

Away in a Manger

Just a quick revisit on the weekend’s date thing.  It’ was pretty awesome that there was a baby born at 10:11 of 12-13-14.  That child will always be punctual I am sure!

Speaking of children being born, here’s Away in the Manger to remind us of a little baby whose birth was also timely!  I have been listening to Kim Walker-Smith’s version a lot this December.  However, there are so many good renditions of this favorite. Like this and this.

7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:7 (NIV)

Pay attention to the last verse, as it includes a prayer that all Christ followers will have no problem singing each day!

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever and love me I pray
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care
And take us to heaven to live with Thee there

Sort of reminds me of these words…

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. [James 4:8a ESV]

12-13-14

I woke up to this tweet this morning!

That is pretty spectacular!  Today is the last sequential date this century. How could I not post that today, especially given the propensity of this blog to love ‘fun with dates and numbers’?  I hate that I will not be around for the next one, but I hope to be resting in the knowledge that my hope had become a reality by then!  Maybe my grandkids will look back and remember this day.

Oh and speaking of spectacular, here is a spectacular Christmas Carol that you probably have never heard.. enjoy. It’s a 10 minute one called ‘Christmas in Bevelton’ which was written by some special people at the Northpoint churches in Atlanta last December.  Stick around, it will bring a smile to your face!

Now to find something else to blog about. 🙁

Day of the Dozens

On Dozen Day how can we not take a break from our Christ focused Christmas songs for a moment and take a listen to the obvious. Here’s a Dozen Days of Christmas from Straight No Chaser. Of course, this song is actually in reference to the 12 days after Christmas, not the Baker’s Dozen of days the remain until Christmas!!!!  I really had no idea that there are some thoughts that this song is encoded with all sorts of National Treasure style mystery!  Seriously!

Anyway, here’s the orignal and a more recent rendition!

Oh also, swing my Krispy Kreme, I hear they have deals today!

Glory in the Highest

Here’s another song inspired by the great announcement from the Angels, Chris Tomlin’s Glory in the Highest. The more you listen to Christmas songs, the more you realise that they all are. That’s odd?

The heavenly hosts
Proclaim your birth
Glory to God and peace beyond the earth
Your name is near, Emmanuel
God with us here
God pleased with earth to dwell
