Easter Restart

So Easter has arrived and with it the sights and sounds of spring! Everything is reborn, and that’s a great time to restart yourself as well! Use the motivation of Easter Sunday to allow transformation to take place and restart yourself! Leave those burdens and troubles and sins at the foot of the cross, that is the reason he went there!

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. (1 Peter 3:18 NIV)

Last Friday of 2012

It’s the last Friday of the year, and I am a little late posting this morning, the pillow was my friend this morning.

As the year closes, it’s a good time to think about how you did own your goals this year, and the one word 365 thing we spoke of back in January.  My word was STRETCH, and I feel pretty good about how that has worked for me, although I think I become distracted from that a bit in the last 8 weeks or so.  I will reveal my word for 2013 next week, but this is a reminder to you and encouragement to consider one word this weekend.

And here is something else to consider today and this weekend as you ponder your word.  I love this tweet from Nike Running

especially the hash tag #In2013NoMore, which evidently is big on Twitter now.

Anyway, I hope In2013ThereIsMore of this:

11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor. 1 Peter 2:11-17

Constrained

One of the minor reasons I started writing this blog 4 years ago was to force myself to attempt o become a better writer, and to be better able to express my self in writing.  I will let all of you judge the improvement!

I do realize however, that some people are just blessed with the ability to use simple words to capture great thoughts.  I was reminded of that last weekend when I was thinking about the lyrics to the classic hymn ‘Come Thou Fount’.  This one line from that great poem is I think often overlooked when the song is sung, but full of immense emotion and meaning

oh to grace how great a debtor, Daily I’m constrained to be.

I am always taken aback by this line and how wonderful a blessing the grace we have been freely given is and by how much of a debt we owe that sale grace!

6 As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.  2 Corinthians 6:1New Living Translation (NLT)

It’s been freely given, and so you are free to give it!

10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.1 Peter 4:10 New International Version (NIV)

By Doing Good

I am short on time and so I just jumped over to the youVersion app this morning to see what inspiration I could find. Well here is what I discovered

It is God’s desire that by doing good you should stop foolish people from saying stupid things about you.Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Live as servants of God. (1 Peter 2:15, 16 NCV)

And this was very fitting for me today. Make sure you are doing good and striving to live in the grace you has been given. Then you will take away words from those who intend to harm you.

Get a Different Name Day

Here we are on Valentine’s Eve anticipating the most famous holiday in February, when it seems today bring us two outstanding observances.

Today is Get a Different Name Day.  Which is funny, because yesterday, I was showing Amy the author’s name of a book I am reading.  The book “Erasing Hell” is written by Francis Chan and Preston Sprinkle.  That’s right, Sprinkle.  I was telling Amy that she should have a classroom name like artists have stage names.  Could you imagine if your first grade teacher was Mrs. Sprinkle?  That’s an incredible first grade teacher name.

I think I might consider Vladimir VonHoffingburger, or maybe I would choose a last name I didn’t have to spell all the time.  I am going to spend a little time today thinking about something else that might make more sense.  What about you, what name would you choose, if you could choose your name?

Ultimately, I am pretty happy with what good ol’ Mom and Dad choose, but I am glad I was able to get a different name but placing my faith in the Christ

9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9 New International Version (NIV)

and as it says in Isaiah

And you will be called priests of the LORD, you will be named ministers of our God

That’s a pretty good name to take on, don’t you think!

Oh, today is also Clean Out your Computer Day!  So while you are considering your different name, delete some of those old documents, and clear out that browser history, but don’t delete you bookmark to the Daily Buffet!
