Listen to Him

March is such a crazy month, its weather, its basketball, its inventive daily celebrations.  For instance this week, March Madness starts, a winter storm is covering half of the country, it’s Mardi Gras week and it’s Celebrate Your Name Week, among tons of other crazy  stuff. Today is also Fun Facts About Names Day, so go learn a fun fact about your name.  If you are a follow of the Christ, you may want to look at this name list and check out all the names that the Christ was called. Well, all the positive ones!

I found this one extremely interesting today. I think it is because it is a little mad, has a weather element and makes a pretty bold celebratory statement:

5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”  Matthew 17:5 (NIV)

I guess if the Creator of the World actually said this, maybe we should listen to his son.
Oh and speaking of the Son of God, if you are heading out to see the recently released movie, you may want to download this free ebook, which includes ‘the complete NIV text of Luke and Acts, along with photos from the movie’  Or maybe encourage others to check it out?

Doing = Well Done!

I know I share tweets from Rick Atchley often, but he creates some gems. So I’ll start this last day of February with this, I think it aligns with what I have written about very well.

https://twitter.com/rickatchley/status/438660545319686144

And since it is the end/start of another month, it seems proper to revisit the verse of the year. This time from the Easy to Read Version

22 Do what God’s teaching says; don’t just listen and do nothing. When you only sit and listen, you are fooling yourselves.  James 1:22 (ERV)

So continue to do on your way to well done!

Oh, and our counters – 9 out, 43 to go!

Proclaim Release

Sometimes I think these words from Jesus, and Isaiah, are overused and misapplied.

And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:17-19 NASB)

But today I think it’s important to remember that as Jesus started his mission he mentioned releasing the captives. Today is Shine a Light on Slavery Day. And like last year the Daily Buffet stands with the End It Movement to remind everyone of the many people in our world who are still in slavery. It’s way too many people who are still in slavery.

Please go check out their site and take some action today. Let us do something to get the message out.

Power comes from The Lord

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath. Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them. One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: “Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.” (Psalm 62:5-12 NIV)

There ya go. That’s a great summary of a follower of the Christ. Trust in him, don’t think too highly of yourself, don’t trust in things and money, get your power from God and do stuff!

Major Sponsor

In College Football it really really pays off you have a few major sponsors of your team. These are the ones with the big bucks. The ones that grease the skids. In business people like to “socialize” their ideas and get “buy in” so they know their idea will succeed. Generally, Its very helpful to have some big force behind you making sure your efforts will prevail.

Well, remind yourself of this today.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31 NIV)

The God of the universe is on your side. The Creator of the world is for you. That should inspire you and give you a little extra boost to be successful today.
No need to fear!
