Groundhogs FTW!

The Groundhogs will be heading to work today for their only day of Meteorological work of the year.  Unfortunately, they are about as accurate in predicting what will happen as all of the sports pre-game guys!  (Aren’t we glad that’s over for a while!)

So while those little guys stand up and look for shadows, let’s tackle the day without fear of our shadows and conquer it no matter what the weather throws at us.  I mean, we know the Light, who controls our past, our future, and the weather!  So Enjoy Candlemas day with some cookies!

Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying;

29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
    you may now dismiss your servant in peace.
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31     which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
    and the glory of your people Israel.”

Luke 2:28-32(NIV)

They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm. And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?” Luke 8:24-25 NASB

Dwell

One simple thought for today. No matter what is going on, you can it is the Lord that will bring you peace and lets you live in safety – the safety that you know he is in control!

Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your face shine on us. Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound. In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. – Psalm 4:6-8

Walk in Wisdom

I dunno, but this seems to say make sure you are taking care of your time and exchanging it for something of value.  What do you think?

15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.  Ephesians 5:15-18 (NKJV)

Near the cross

I was listening to some Dailey and Vincent while I was working yesterday when Spotify queued up ‘Near The Cross’.   It had been years since I have heard or song this song, which is quite a shame.  I was surprised how quickly it reminded me of my grandparents and their  church in the hills of West Virginia.  These guys do it justice live and recorded.  And of course in a capella ( my fav!)

Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadows o’er me.

14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which[a] the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Galatians 6:14 NIV

Pushing Forward

This:

I am not sure why, but this statement struck a cord with me yesterday. I think it is because of two things. One reason is definitely tied to a study on spiritual disciplines that I recently started.  The other reason is related to the physical goals I have set up for myself this year. All of us must remember that regardless of the goals we establish for ourselves, the bigger deal is ensuring that the achieving of those goals makes us more like our Master! Think about that as you look around at what you are working each day to accomplish. Where is it really leading you?

7b rather, train yourself to be godly. 1 Timothy 4:7(NIV)
