Stay Focused

Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.  – 2 tim 2

I read this earlier in the week and I thought the whole idea of not getting caught up in things that do not help your purpose and serve your master was very interesting.  Who are you pleasing on this Spring Friday!

Earth Day 2015

Yeah, it’s Earth Day!  Let’s not forget that this is God’s piece of dirt that we spend our days on, and that he has entrusted us to look after it with vigor!

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number;fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.

Genesis 1:26-29 (NIV)

As with Moses

I had an early start and a late finish yesterday, which was fun but stinks as I had a great thought to share but I was unable to get in on ‘paper’.  I will attempt to share it later this week.

For today,  here is a simple little reminder from the story of Joshua.

As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.            — Joshua 1:5

Those are big words from our God to Joshua and demonstrate his power and his dedication to his people.  Get strength from that today!

Second Chances

Yesterday I added some random music from iTunes to my phone to have something to listen to at work. Some of this music I had not listened to in the past, or at lot very much.  I stumbled across this song named ‘Second Chances’ by Gregory Alan Isakov.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toEmtefuGl0

I loved this one particular line in the song

I’m all bloody knuckles, longing for home
It if weren’t for second chances we’d all be alone.

The song itself seems to be about a certain lack of self-confidence or concern about the lack of success.  I don’t know.  It just struck me as a good thing to think about as we interact with others and a great reminder of the need for us to dispense grace and mercy all along our paths!

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselveswith compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Colossians 3:12-13

This week I am riding the change curve as a have a major life change that I am working through!  Lots of new stuff, people and processes to learn and to process.   It’s good but a little taxing on the noggin.  So I opened up the youVersion app today and look at what I saw.

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬ NIV)

For me this is very timely!  Maybe for you as well.  Strive to gain understanding.  It’s seems essential for our growth as followers of the Christ.
