Belief

Following up on yesterday’s post about Abraham and his belief.  It’s interesting to me that the Christ had these things to say about belief:

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11

Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:37-38

Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. 46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.  John 12:44-46

Just somethings to think about on this Friday.

Believe

I have been working hard lately on the concept of trust.  The whole idea of letting go of your own wishes and letting the Lord’s timing, style and approach take over.   It seems to be one of the essentials aspects of being a following of the Christ and the Creator. But it is such a hard discipline to conquer.

Yesterday, I was listening to Andy Stanley’s excellent podcast “Your Move”.  This week he was talking about Abraham, and the fundamental aspect of our faith that was highlighted in God’s conversations with Abraham.  This item right here:

Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

Abram believed.  That’s all.

And for that he was reckoned or counted as righteous.

That’s all.

Hmm.

Do Good

I had an early start yesterday and was not able to post, but what has been on my heart that last few days is the amount of evil and terror that is being created in the Middle East now.  This is a very unsettling time, and is something that all of us should pay a bit of attention to. I am reminded of the quote that I shared before that hangs in the Holocaust Museum in D.C..

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me. (Martin Niemoller)

Stop and spend a little bit of time praying for those in the area of ISIL and think about how your actions today, albeit small, could help in any way. It might just be the impact that you have on someone which continues to spread the message of the Christ around the world.

17 Learn to do good;
Seek justice,
Reprove the ruthless,
Defend the orphan,
Plead for the widow. Isaiah 1:17 (NASB)

Men with Bread

I stopped by Panera Bread for breakfast early this morning on the way to the office. I order my sandwich and provided the cashier Emily the number for my myPanera card. Then I turned around to see an awesome sight. Throughout the restaurant I witnessed four different groups of men eating, sharing, studying and praying together. This made me extremely happy. As I was alone, I was tempted to join one of the groups, but instead positioned myself where I could eavesdrop on a few of the conversations. (I learned that skill from my most excellent wife). Anyway, I loved what I heard, and it was so encouraging to me to see these guys sharing their lives together!

Great job guys!

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭17‬ KJV)

Oh way the way, get ready. Tomorrow is Talk Like a Pirate Day!!! Yes!
