Here’s another song inspired by the great announcement from the Angels, Chris Tomlin’s Glory in the Highest. The more you listen to Christmas songs, the more you realise that they all are. That’s odd?
The heavenly hosts
Proclaim your birth
Glory to God and peace beyond the earth
Your name is near, Emmanuel
God with us here
God pleased with earth to dwell
O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding, Guide us to thy perfect Light.
This song is great because it reminds us of the great event of the past, but also gives us a very relevant bit of guidance for today – a gentle reminder to keep our eyes focused on the Light, the Christ!
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2(NIV)
You may also want to take a trip back in time and read some old thoughts on heading westward!
Late last night I went for a night swim in my local gym outdoor pool! It was nice clear 37 degree night with a big ol’ moon brightly shining. It put this song in my mind. (By the way, the pool is heated!)
O ye beneath life’s crushing load,
Whose forms are bending low,
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow;
Look now, for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing;
Oh rest beside the weary road
And hear the angels sing.
Here’s a great one that may come back up again just for fun. I prefer this one done Blue Grass style, but was not able to turn up the exact rendition I was looking for this morning. Here’s Crowder Telling it from the Mountain!
He made me a watchman
Upon the city wall,
And if I am a Christian,
I am the least of all.
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.
We’ve seen him. He’s come! Let’s go see the baby King!
This one was hard, had there are so many great renditions of this song. I thought about the classic Bing, but to show the breadth of my musical spectrum, here’s a grand performance of this favorite by Josh Groban!
O Come All Ye Faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
And then tell others the good news!
Salvation is here, life change is here, freedom is here! What a happy morning!
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. Luke 2 NIV
