You used to walk in these ways

I know I share a lot from other people, but man so many people have such great ideas. Like this one from David Skidmore.

Wow, I love that. Please, spend some time today reading Colossians 3 and then come back and think about what his is saying. It’s a powerful chapter, with some really practical advice on the how and why Christians should present themselves in a radical way.  You used to, but now you.

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.  Colossians 3:12-14

How will you finish?

None of Us Lives to Himself

This day creates tension for me.  A tension between where our world is, and where our world should be.  A tension between my daily experiences and the experiences that I read from others.  A tension between the thoughts in my mind and the stories and views of others.

I want to ignore it, and move along blissfully along my own path, however, I know that’s not good.  It’s better to stop and examine it.  And then create a way forward balancing the tension and continuing to grow and transform my little mind into one that matches the wishes of my master.

And with that, here are a few thoughts on the matter from the man of the day.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Let us continue to choose love as we interact with all the people of this world.

For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.
Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written,
“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,
and every tongue shall confess to God.”
So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.
Romans 14:7-12 (ESV)

Friday Chant

The last team I worked with had a daily 8 am call.  This call’s main purpose was to outline the work accomplished yesterday and to plan the work for today. However, as you can imagine an 8 am call, every day could begin to become quite tedious.

To help overcome the monotony, I would always try to lighten the mood on Friday with the Friday song.  It was usually a simple ‘Fri-Day, Fri-Day, Fri-Day’ chant as the call got started or when I joined.  I thought it was pretty remarkable how this changed the mood and created a sense of comradery on the team.  As time passed others on the team would actually start the chant.

I don’t work with that team anymore, but even now, sometimes on a Friday I will reach out to the team with a Skype message to remind them of the day!

friday

So, today, celebrate a little with your co-workers as you head into the weekend, after all, it is a part of God’s gift to us!

…that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.  Ecclesiastes 3:13 ESV

Other Oriented

Here’s some pretty good advice from a really good thinker.

I wonder what would happen in our lives and if took this to heart and really began to pace the focus on others in our conversations?

Seems pretty close to this?

Don’t be selfish; don’t live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself.  Don’t just think about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and in what they are doing. Philippians 2:3-4 (TLB)

What do you think?

Joy

Sometimes the best thoughts are the simplest ones, like the ones found in this Nursery Rhyme:

I’m glad the sky is painted blue,
And earth is painted green,
With such a lot of nice fresh air
All sandwiched in between

Ahh, so simple,  so nice. Enjoy the day that has been provided today and be glad!

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad;
let the sea resound, and all that is in it.
Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them;
let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. Psalms 96:11-12
